If we do make it will we be seeded this year :?:
Yes. It would take years of us, utd, chelsea & Liverpool doing poorly in the competition or not qualifying at all for us to become unseeded.
I thought there was a set of circumstances going into the semi's this year that if it happened - we would not be top seeds in the group :?:
If all goes as expected in the remaining 3rd qualifier games, we'll be seeded along with Bayern, Benfica, Villarreal & Udinese.

Dynamo Kyiv 0-2 Rubin Kazan
FC Twente 2-0 Vaslui
Odense BK 1-1 Panathinaikos
Standard Liege 1-1 FC Zurich
Benfica 2-0 Trabzonspor
So can we play who ever wins these matches Dan?
Numbers in brackets is the seeding coefficient. Highest is best!

5 teams will be seeded.

Bayern Munich (118.887), The Arsenal (108.157), Lyon (92.735), and Villareal (75.465), are definitely seeded.

If Benfica (81.319) win they are also seeded.

If Trabzonspor (12.010) wins against Benfica then Dynamo Kiev (60.776 ) will be seeded if they win against Rubin Kazan (31.941).

If Rubin Kazan beat Dinamo Kiev then Panathinaikos (57.833) will be seeded, if they beat Odense. (18.610).

If Panathinaikos don't win then FC Twente Enschede (41.025) will be seeded, if they beat Vaslui (10.164)

If FC Twente don't win then Standard Liege (32.400 ) will be seeded, if they beat FC Zürich ( 18.980)

If Liege don't win then Udinese (27.110) will be seeded.

I would wait until next Wednesday to see who we play.

I'll butt in, if I may.

The Arsenal have got a coefficient of 108.157

POT ONE...

Manchester United 151.157
FC Barcelona 141.465
Chelsea 129.157
Bayern München 118.887
The Arsenal 108.157
Real Madrid 103.465
FC Porto 100.319
Internazionale 100.110

POT TWO...
AC Milan 94.110
Olympique Lyon 92.735
Shakhtar Donetsk 87.776
Valencia 85.465
Benfica 81
Villarreal 75.465
CSKA Moscow 73.941
Olympique Marseille 68.735

We won't be in Pot Two for a long while, I hope.

Just to put it into perspective, the **** coefficient is...

Tottenham Hotspur 78.157

They would get into Pot 2.

Yes, again it would take a massive decline in European performance from all the English sides to see us drop out of that top seeds pot. In fact, the way the coefficients are worked out, it was only the consistent European performances of us, utd, chelsea & Liverpool that saw spurs moved up into pot 3 instead of 4 last year...

Importantly, I presume that means Citeh will be in either pots 3 or 4, which means they face a fucker of a group. On the basis that they can't get us, Chavs or ManUre, then they have 40% chance of drawing one of the two Spanish giants. Chuck AC Milan / Shakhtar / Villareal or Valencia into the mix and they might have a bit more trouble than they think.....

Providing we get to the groups, I hope we get Valencia. I need to visit The Mestalla before they move to their new ground...

They did poorly between 92-06 though, plus average performances from the other Spanish teams in that period (aside from Real perhaps).

Don't think its based on a set period. A teams coefficient takes into account their own European record & those of teams from the same FA though...

Theoretically Man City will be in Pot 3.

These 'pots' are still open to a little bit of change, depending on who gets through, but more or less like this...

POT 3...

Zenit St. Petersburg 60.441
Glasgow Rangers 56.028
Ajax 56.025
Bayer Leverkusen 54.887
FC København 51.110
Olympiakos Piraeus 50.833
Fenerbahçe 50.510
Manchester City 47.157
POT 4...

Lille OSC 40.735
FC Basel 39.980
BATE Borisov 23.216
Borussia Dortmund 22.887
Maccabi Haifa 21.400
Napoli 21.110
Dinamo Zagreb 20.224
Otelul Galati 5.164

The other interesting thing is that Borussia Dortmund are in Pot 4, so there is going to be another 'group of death', as the Bundesliga Champions will be in a group with a Pot 1 and a Pot 2 team...and hopefully Man City.

This is going to be a very boring post, sorry in advance.

How the coefficient is worked out...

It's based on the results of the teams in any European competition in the last 5 years.

They get 2 points for a win, and 1 point for a draw during that period.

You get 1 point for a quarter final place, then another one for the semi final, and another for the Final.

You also get 'bonus points' for qualification into the group-stage of the Champions League.

Oh God...

It's all explained here. This website is the Gospel for this...

Indeed. ManU have been very constantly strong, and so have kept up a high coefficient, and Barca did drop off in those years. Plus Liverpool helped the English coefficient, and chelsea and us of course.

List of the teams coefficient, from the last 5 years, so you can see how consistent ManU have been...and us, to be fair. But Barca are going to be top for a long time in the next few years.
