CHESNEY ARSENAL LEGEND

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Amazingly fickle some of this stuff. I remember arguing with dozens of people on here just over a year ago when there was widespread clamour for him to be first choice on the back of a fucking loan spell at world beaters Brentford. I even labelled him Brentford's finest which received quite a few barbed responses from those going all gooey over a few reserve displays

Amazing how people get what they want and then backtrack

I'm not quite so sad as to go back through every fucking post that was made on the subject but there are people piling into him now when he was a supposed hero a year ago. In fact people were getting scared he would leave the club and urging him to be first choice with a new conract on the back of having achieved nothing.

If you've got the time dig out the posts

I am sad enough, but I won't do your dirty work

Playing devil's advocate, I would say that perhaps the clamour was at least in some part because of the alternatives on offer, and the little faith in Wenger to buy an good, experienced replacement.

To be fair steve o, I think arseofacrow sums it up best when he quite correctly suggests that the clamour for and subsequent support of chesney is heavily influenced by the abysmal alternatives
On a personal level I accept that he is going to make mistakes so am willing to cut him slack over that but I am not willing to give him any slack over his gobbing off to the media or through social networks

I think 1989 can be credited with

Bags of potential but needs competition otherwise will be able to turn in gash performance after gash performance without fear of being dropped as he has no competion.

He needs to desperately work on his rushng out and his claiming of high balls as both are shit.

Off topic but we have too may players who are guaranteed starters irrespective of performances.
