Re: ASTON VILLA (H)
Merson is a prime example of someone who knows Wenger is done but can't bring himself to say it. For years now everyone has known we have major problems and every paper etc has been filled with them, without mentioning that clearly at least some of them are down to the manager.
In 2009/10 he harped on all season about how we had no chance of winning the league with a clown in goal - sure enough he was proved right when Almunia made mistakes in key games at Birmingham and Spurs. He has been very honest in his assessment of Arsenal over the last few years and aware of our various shortcomings on and off the pitch.
But he can't make the link between these shortcomings and them being entirely Wenger's fault.

Merson: I'd be careful what the Arsenal fans wish for... who do you bring in? I think Arsene Wenger's got to stay - he has to stay. I think for himself as well. At the end of the day, I'd back him all the time.
What a *word censored*.
Charlie Nick ain't much better - cowardly c**ts the both of them

Instead of bottling it out with defending them cos of a lack of money, why don't the fcukers discuss the lack of any tactical intelligence, his 70th minute substitute policy cos these c**ts are all aware of it cos it is discussed regularly on the various forums and we all know that the media guys track the forums. Why don't they discuss his totally inability to motivate his players ? Why, instead of talking about the inability to compete with the mega rich clubs, do they not discuss our inability to defeat Bradford, Norwich, Sunderland, Blackburn and of course villa away ? Two lower league clubs, one team that was rock bottom when they beat us, one team that has spent almost the whole season in bottom 3 and of course the mackems who are down in the dogfight to stay away from bottom 3 as well

We cant have it both ways though.......either we want the journo's like stelling to man up and go after wenger with the increasing evidence of managerial incompetance or we dont and personally I dont care if stelling is enjoying it or not

Why would i CHOOSE to take it the wrong way? What has buying fanzines for 25 years got to do with it?arseofacrow wrote:As I said, I think you are well wide of the mark. On all counts. Like i said, the views ive seen in the pubs and with fellow fans in the stands is that the article was at best provocative and at worst an absolte shambles that made the fanzine look unintelligent, misinformed and a voice for pure idiocy...which we all know isnt the case.
He is the Ed, he can write what he wants at the end of the day and as ive said, overall i think he does a great job, but in my opinion that article was a big mistake - and the issues it has caused on twitter, and on here, prove that it wast just a normal article, it was in the opinion of me and many other fans - a big mistake. Everybody is entitled to their views, but as a fanzine there needs to be an ability to stand back and take heed of the wider ramifications of what is published.) on twitter.
I'll leave it there, because I think you (and perhaps others) have taken. or chosen to take, the article in the wrong way so it's pointless me carrying on with this.
And I was buying fanzines 25 years ago, so I know what they stand for.
Like it or not, the article has proved to be a contentious issue, which i think proves there is validity of debate - you say im wide of the mark...why? Can you not see why some might bring this article up if things get violent again? I was disgusted what I saw at Brighton, kids everywhere, and i really hope I dont see it again - a popular fanzine should be speaking out against it. I did not bring Villa into it - the author did.
We are clearly at diff ends of the spectrum here, no point dragging it out further, all i know is, the Gooner has lost a lot of respect from those ive spoken too (both for and against Wenger) since its publication and a clarification would go a long way, i think, in mitigating any further idiotic behaviour in the future.
Anyway, game time now and im sure we both want the right result, come on you reds
