If people think that Arshavin had the wool pulled over his eyes then you're sadly mistaken. Do you seriously think he signed for Arsenal and wasn't ever told he'd be played out wide or what the plans were?

He couldn't hack the pace and requirements of the league week in week out. Shame really.
Yes that's exactly what I think, otherwise I don't believe he would have signed, he was duped just as Podolski has been, do you believe Podolski was told he would play wide, whilst a usless fucking french fucking gaylord would play up front and that he would be relegated to the bench, whilst said gaylord played each week missing chance after fucking chance and only managing to score goals which were largely meaningless.
Didn't really see the need to go off into the deep end about Giroud. I'm guessing that's who you were trying your hardest to describe.

In response to the other part - If Arshavin was duped then why has he not requested a move instead of watching his contract (and career) run down?

Then he is a bit of a fucking plonker, it didn't take a genius to realise he wasn't going to usurp Cesc in that role when he first joined the club. All his first season did was demonstrate that he could quite easily play and be very effective in a wide left position but he couldn't be arsed.

I thought in his later years at the club when he was playing as a reserve in our cup teams that he should have been used more in that central role but I'm not going to criticise the manager for not pandering to a lazy and unprofessional player that had no interest left in earning his wage.

In this day and age, if a player with his multitude of advisors, agents and lawyers can't discuss and agree what a prospective new manager has in mind for them then they deserve any surprises that come their way.

As someone has said, wide left is not like having to play in goal, and shouldn't preclude him from making a bit of an effort.

I can recall him making quite an effort in a game against L'pool, I think he might have scored one or two in that game, the last one involving him sprinting from his own half and keeping up with Theo, to be in a position to receive his pass then lashing it into the back of the net, only to be dropped a few days later by a fucking senile lunatic, for an FA cup final which I think we lost, prior to a clge game which I also think we may have lost which Arshavin was inelligible to play in.
Then we had the period when Arshavin was still a willing contributor on the field of play, when we had a striker injury crisis and Wenger decided to play him as a loan front man, a game at home to utd which I also think we lost springs to mind, when wengers tactic was to pump high balls up to the giant arshavin against utds two dwarflike defenders.
No matter what Arshavin thought were the clubs plans for him when he signed, he could not possibly have allowed for Wenger being insane and a tactical fucking halfwit. There is only so much any player or any person can take until they say "sod this"

Sid he was very effective playing primarily on the left for his first 12-18 months - it may not have been where he wanted to play but don't pretend he couldn't play there or that it was completely unfamiliar to him.

If the bloke was as talented as you and many others are making out then the scale of his demise says more about him than it possibly could about anything else. A damning indictment on a supposedly class player that he declined to the stage where he was scared of getting the ball or trying to beat a man and his first (and only) concern was beating Squillaci and Djourou to the front of the queue to pick up his wages.

It was puzzling for the first year or so why he'd stayed in Russia and off the radar for nearly a decade given his obvious ability. Became obvious when he was struggling to stay in shape and couldn't be arsed to put the work in on or off the pitch to fight for his place.

he lacked the hunger :rubchin:

as for podolski he's average, if he was good enough he would play central every week. Please don't cite his caps, just look how he performs. He can be good, he can score goals, but that's par for the level of our team.

If you think players like arshavin and podolski would go and light up other top teams I think you're very wrong.

Bye Andrei, thanks for the times you were good, shame that you retired soon afterwards.

Podolski has done OK for the German national team though.

I think he is better wide left than central, do not see playing wide as confirmation of lesser talent, ask Robert Pires.

Hard to get a proper idea of Podolksi, debut season in the Premiership and has been playing with a dodgy ankle.

Andrei hardly touched the ball in the game he scored 4.
I was at Anfield - people were moaning he'd done jack all just before he scored
undeniably effective - virtually only played v Cov and Reading this year but was still involved in several goals

I loved him, a real character but basically a throwback to another era
been a while since talent has been enough to remove the need for hard work

terrible error by Wenger dropping him for that semi,
can't see how being dropped wrongly, ages ago, makes a player eat too many pies and not track back...

Wasn't he 11 or 14 m at the time and that was considered a big spend?

Still widely quoted as our record signing at £15m.
surpassing Wlitord's £13m
