Re: Serious Question - Can we win the league?
Not an option in the list for me.
We were effectively only two results away from it this year. Accepting that we got buttfucked in those two games (citeh & mousers) they were actually the only two that stopped us. If you reverse the results in those two games we would have been champions!
That tells me that we are not that far away from competing for the title. Unfortunately however I think Chelsea have strengthened really well this year and I cannot see past them winning it. I see no reason why we cannot be second though.

We'll see how a fully fit Sánchez gets on upfront first, probably as early as next week in the Community Shield.Gunnersaurus wrote:Really don't agree, both positions are equally as weak as eachother, yes we have goals in this team but we also have another 9 outfield players that are capable of defending so if we really want to push on we need to replace the players that are clear weak links.1989 wrote:Between the attacking players in our squad we have plenty of goals in us so I don't see that being a problem.Gunnersaurus wrote:and a centre forward.
Fix those positions and why not?
Giroud is poor, Arteta and Flamini are in decline, they are the weak links.
Watching Arteta get outpaced and outmuscled by every *word censored* is though.
Giroud is shocking, even with better players around him he still gets caught off side when he shouldn't or the ball don't stick.

in a similar vein - does anyone think we make Top 3 with the current squad or maybe with Khedira ?
Everton look to be slightly stronger, liverpool, slightly weaker. chavs and city should take more points off red scouse, less of blue scouse. sadly chavs actually ARE better without sideshow bob...
my top 6 :
city
chavs
US (with Khedira)
Blue Scouse
red scouse
United.

Not if we have to endure the sight of Giroud shanking it to all corners of the World while appearing to run as if in treacle.
Not if we defend set pieces like a Sunday league side.
Not with Wenger's limited tactical skills.
Basically no.

you seriously think United will finish outside of the top 4 again?clockender1 wrote:in a similar vein - does anyone think we make Top 3 with the current squad or maybe with Khedira ?

Re: Serious Question - Can we win the league?
Looking at the other teams in and around us then this is going to be a very difficult season to stay in the top 4 let alone win it.
Man u will be there or there abouts, agree that chelsea have strengthened and man city will be strong again, l'pool though look weaker and I fancy them to finish 5th or lower.
We are still 2 or 3 players away for me.
What annoys me still was that last season was the one where we had the most realistic chance of winning it for years and that was without any additional players, had Ramsey and Walcott stayed fit I think we would have won it narrowly but had we bought a world class DM then we would have won it by 5 or more points.
We are in need of a world class DM now, more so than ever considering what the other teams around us have, a better forward (I see Sanchez being played on the wing by Wenger) and another CH and maybe a LB.

Re: Serious Question - Can we win the league?
If Vermalen goes then another CB is a must. We have no coverage there outside the first choice pair.
1st Chelsea no doubt in this for me
2nd - 4th Any one of Us, City and Manure in any order. I think it is that close.
5th - 6th Mousers and Everton. Also in any order.
relegation candidates for me are:-
Burnley
Leicester
West Ham
and I think that the scum will have their worst finish for some time. I'm predicting 10th or 11th.

Re: Serious Question - Can we win the league?
Largely agree with Spuddy. We will get top 4 at the expense of Liverpool, although we won't win it. Bit more difficult to pick between the top 3 for me. I would say despite their huge advantage of no European games and a piss-easy first 10 games to allow them to gel, United will still fall short. If Fabregas and Costa work out then Chelsea are massive favourites but tbh I was pretty underwhelmed with Mourinho's return last year - to me they were still a way short of the level they should be aiming for. Despite being an affable bloke the reality is if Pellegrini had actually got City playing at anywhere near their capacity they would have walked the title last year and not been relying on Chelsea Reserves and Palace to win it for them.

Re: Serious Question - Can we win the league?
Rob - yes, their back four and midfield is dire. unless VG has the rumoured full scale clear out of cleverly, carrick, smalling, jones, fletcher, fellaini, evans etc etc then the addition of mata and a temporarily fit RvP and fat pikey granny shagger is not going to do much.Gunner Rob wrote:you seriously think United will finish outside of the top 4 again?clockender1 wrote:in a similar vein - does anyone think we make Top 3 with the current squad or maybe with Khedira ?

also look at hernandez, young, zaha and Januzjah - hardly world beaters are they ?
i definitely thing Everton can take more points than the current united squad. Rodgers has a better squad too and is a good tactician i think - plus if United are sitting in 5th/6th at the end of october then the pressure on VG and the players will be massive.
I think VG made a big mistake waiting to evaluate his players because a) everyone already knows how crap they are, and b) he'll have to pay through the nose for every single player when he needs a good 5-6 players plus back up.
they are shafted, mark my words.

Chavs
Citeh
The Arsenal or Manure
Everton
scum or Mousers or Manure
And so it will be.
The Manure jumping a few spots thing is really down to Looooey VanCuntflap. If he has maximum impact he might drag that shite team into the top 4. But then you see names like Fellaini, Jones, Cleverly, Evans, Carrick, Smalling and Fletcher and you think "possibly 7th".

looking at the fixture list I will be very surprised if United are not top of the league going into October.

Re: Serious Question - Can we win the league?
And to answer the OP question; No. I don't think we will win the PL.
No matter who we sign we still have Arsene in charge and post-2006 Arsene is a busted flush, behind the rest on tactics, and not pragmatic often enough when it comes to grinding out results. He will most likely continue with zonal chaos because he feels it's his idea and anyone that disagrees offends his sensibilities. So zonal chaos it is then. Similarly we will go EVERYWHERE and play our game with no proper defensive preperation or taking into account other teams' strengths because that's the way we roll. So a couple of 5-0 and 6-0 hidings it will be. He'll either get rid of our best finisher (Pod) or keep putting him out wide where he is mostly ineffective. So we miss out on a (possible) extra 10 to 20 PL goals a season.
Don't get me wrong, like SPUDDY, I don't hate Arsene, and I still respect and love the man for the glory years 96-06 but he is not the man to take us forward now. His ego and intractibility are harming our chances. I'm delighted for him (AND US!!) to have won the FA Cup last season, especially after Moron's crass shitehawk comments, but I wish it had been Arsene's swansong and he'd left on a relative high.

Re: Serious Question - Can we win the league?
the BBC have us down to finish 5th
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/28742392
now I have been pessimistic about our chances on here but even I think we will finish TOP 4 again this season.
I don't see how you can argue that we will finish worse than United considering they have only brought in one defender and one midfielder.

I just don't give credence to any football related comments from anyone attached to the BBC anymore. Haven't for years. We will finish 3rd or most likely 4th. Again.Gunner Rob wrote:the BBC have us down to finish 5th![]()

As one of the most pessimistic posters on here, I haven't been so confident of a top for finish in years. I think we will finish 3rd maybe even 2nd.
