Jack Wilshere

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Yes apart from the last eight (soon to be nine) fucking seasons!!!

Typical of his generation of Gooners really, most of em think Wenger IS Arsenal (although so do many older ones like my brother and my Dad)

I like the way he says he wants to win things but might be forced to leave if Wenger goes :? What if, five years down the line, you've still won nothing and Wenger is still here? What then Jack? Who's fault will that be? Surely not Arsene's, because he "always delivers trophies" right?

Well, actually no. He hasn't delivered a trophy for almost a decade. Ah, of course, you've all been brainwashed to believe that 4th place is a real trophy...

These comments are just typical of the rot and malaise that has set in at Arsenal. How dare we question Professor Crackpot eh? :banghead:

Wilshere you can f**k right off then, you lemming. That leaves a grand total of zero heroes at The Arsenal FC.

oh Jack you didn't....

Your not that good son, and you might be a leetle beet shocked as to how many fans wouldn't give a toss if you went....so stick to playing ball and leave the dopey statements to the manager

just to clarify what I meant on 'tackling' and Jack - he does dive into tackles and often fouls the opponent.
I couldn't agree more on positional sense and timing being essential for a DM and that is what made Claude Mak so great.
On Jack's Wenger remarks, remember he's 21 and Wenger is the only coach he's known. Wenger's built him up, so it's not very surprising that he's loyal. I'd be surprised if he wasn't.

Yeah after clearing that up I agree with that Sam - although I think his energy and ability to dart through gaps in the thick of the midfield is a massive asset atm his role isn't defined and his play doesn't suit the team so he just ends up running round like a blue-arsed fly.

Anyone else think that with Ozil guaranteed to start, Jack will be the player that will make way for him? With Ramsey in great form I think he'd be very unlucky if he was dropped. Front six on form flamini, ramsey ozil, carzola, giroud walcott.

The title of this thread is an absolute fucking joke to be honest.

James Milner for instance - always in the England squad, people always raving about his 'legendary' fucking workrate and he can't beat a player for pace, skill or even cross the fucking ball. He is absolutely fucking pants and I despair that he's in the team. Jack suffers from being one of the youngest players in the team so will always be slightly overrated like all Ing-er-lund youngsters are. The young lad at Everton is about to suffer the same treatment based on his 30 minute cameo the other night.

Lets not confuse a bit of media hype with labelling him the most over rated player in English football because that simply isn't true

I think its probably a bit early to say that tbh. When Wilshere first came into the team he played in a 2 with Song and showed he wasn't afraid to put a foot in. While neither should be considered out-and-out defensive midfielders (neither was song, the lumbering *word censored*) I reckon together they have enough steel and athleticism to function as a 2. Early signs haven't been entirely great I admit but it could be a partnership that needs time to develop, especially with Jack still getting over his injuries.

It's only the back end of last season that Wenger has stopped dicking around with Ramsey on the wing, as a DM or as a playmaker and it's no coincidence that he's started putting in some good performances since then.

Wenger doesn't know how to get the best out of Wilshere and it's a waste having him just running around the pitch like a Jack Russell. Until Wenger figures out his best position/role then we're not going to really know who he can and can't play alongside.

I think Wilshere's position is clear, a deep central midfielder who acts like a quarterback, playing a range of passes but primarily to the other midfielders rather than hoofing it to the striker.

He has enough about him to help out with tackling too.

The question is what type of player to play next to him?

I think Flamini's work rate and tackling and box-to-box running will get the best out of Wilshere, rather than Arteta or Rosicky who are naturally the most similar to Wilshere out of our deep central midfielders.

Ramsey's work rate sees him get a starting place at the moment though.

I'd be inclined to agree with that but he's not really playing that role atm - more like running round like a blue-arsed fly and then trying to beat 3 or 4 men when he gets on the ball.
