Unai Emery

Emery’s attention to detail was described as Guardiola-like & the calm passion he displayed immediately won over Gazidis & co. He knew more about the #Arsenal squad & every relevant detail about their career path & injury histories than people who had been at the club for years. https://t.co/piauQ4GIqt

Think the Sun are over doing it abit now.
Good read , bit concerned over the weak management of player power , thinking Ozil here needs to get a grip of him and not let him pick and choose his games.

It could be the first season in about 8 years where I can go into it with a real sense of anticipation and actually looking forward to it. Please appoint Emery.
Until we lose 2-1 at home to Cardiff on the first day of the season! :barscarf:

somewhere, somehow Wenger has been involved in all this.
funnily enough he was at the club AGAIN yesterday, just a few days after he had supposedly cleared his desk, yesterday he was there to "clear his office" apparently.

clearly there were a lot of meetings yesterday - Wenger would have been involved, and of course will have known Emery through his PSG links.

Agreed. I was thinking the same.

I'm not sure how I feel about it yet (I really don't know that much about him) but if he'd gone to Chelsea, Sp*rs or Liverpool, I'd be questioning why we hadn't gone for him. I reckon many others would too.

Anyway, it's an interesting appointment. Looking forward to it.

Before Emery came to light I was wondering why Pellegrini went to West Ham and never seemed to be connected with us. Perhaps it sums us up somehow.
Strange going ons anyhow. Arteta was obviously Kranky's cheapskate option. Emery comes along at last minute. Were other board members unhappy with Kranky's pennypinching and saw this last chance option. Arteta clearly has enough about him but you cannot put him into a top club just like that....a gamble I'm glad we decided against even if we do look bad about it. Let us not forget most top managers would want more than 50 mil to spend and decided against putting their hats into the ring.

Unless it was Allegri or Enrique (or pep - Yeah Riiiight!) It is always going to be a Gamble.

:rubchin: Wonder what odds they will be offering on his succeeding in his first season??? :rubchin:

probably a better option than Arteta...but I can't see this being an appointment for more than a couple of years.
he will be expected to win the Europa League and/or get top 4 in the league. is he capable of challenging for the league ? very unlikely.

a few things bother me:

1. he never finished in the top 4 with Seville
2. his sides still leak goals - I am not sure he is the solution to our defence
3. in 2016/17 we actually finished above PSG in our CL group

1. Did finish top 4 thrice in a row with Valencia though. Came 3rd in all of them.

2. Agreed. The 6-1 defeat to Barcelona and the way they defended that night, doesn't cover him in glory to be honest.

3. Means very little imo. Real Madrid finished behind Sp*rs in this season's group stage.
