From blogs to broadsheets via tabloids, they are all relevant to this thread.Galasso wrote:The press is it? The idea is to see just how many players we get linked too, and how few of them, if any, we actually buy.
In the summer were linked to 106 players according to this thread, but bought 6.
I shall look forward to you quoting my uninformed ramblings (no change there then
) from my newly registered website:

Arsenal could open the door for William Gallas to leave by making a bid for Roma's Philippe Mexes. (Express)
Excellent - another centre half who peaked 5 years ago and can't jump.
As an aside
Manchester City are favourites to sign Portsmouth's Lassana Diarra in the transfer window. (Observer)
....and no doubt for considerably more than the paltry 5.5 million we sold him for a year ago. More masterful commercial decision making from our board

I think Diarra's transfer to Portsmouth can be criticised on a football front, but not on a commercial one (or not on a personnel one for that matter either, the player being unsettled almost as soon as he arrived!).SteveO 35 wrote: Manchester City are favourites to sign Portsmouth's Lassana Diarra in the transfer window. We made a 2.5 - 3M profit on him by selling him on.
At the time, Man City were not owned by billionaires, so the prospect of an inflated fee for him was not apparent.

Steve Stammers in The Mirror:
Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini is a transfer window target for Arsenal - if they decide to unload William Gallas.
Gallas is wanted by Juventus who are managed by Claudio Ranieri, the man who brought him into English football from Marseille when he was in charge at Chelsea.
Gallas is known to be keen on one more opportunity to play for a high-profile European club and Ranieri is set to give him that chance.
In return, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger would want 24-year-old Chiellini.
The drawback for Wenger will be the asking price. While Gallas, at 31, would cost only £5million, Juventus would want at least three times that figure for Chiellini.
GooonerTalk (Weblog) claim:
Portugal international midfielder Miguel Veloso could well be set for a January transfer window exit, and for a very cheap fee, according to the player’s agent.
Fiorentina and Arsenal are ready to make a move for the player. The player’s representitive Paulo Barbosa confirmed.
“The last meeting of ours was dated two months ago, we talked about various topics and also Veloso. “With the economic crisis at Sporting, you can expect the price of £6 million to be reviewed.â€

I would take chiellini - we could do with a ruthless bastard defender and Italy makes them type of defenders better than anyone else and believe me I mean that as a compliment not an insult. Not since the days of keown, TA6 and bouldie have we had that type of a defender and this team, more than any other wenger team, needs that type of player which of course means we wont buy him
Anybody that was on here in the summer will know that I have craved david villa's signing pre euro 2008 but even I know that there is zero chance of him (or any big name established star) joining us as along as wenger is in charge
In a lot of ways it would make sense in that he is also available to play champs league football but we would be lown out of the water financially if he was put up for sale. Anyway why would we need him when we already have bedtner and greedybayor ?

Andrew Allen on Sport.co.uk thinks:
Arsene Wenger is reportedly interested in signing Dutch midfielder Mark van Bommel as he attempts to instil some discipline in his wayward midfield.
The Bayern Munich captain looks set to leave the German giants in the summer and has already been targeted by his former club PSV Eindhoven.
Paul Meadows on Fans FC believes:
Arsene Wenger has been impressed with £5million-rated goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey, but Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Mick McCarthy has told the Gunners boss to forget about making a bid.
Mean Lean on arsenalvision.co.uk speculates:
Apparently we have been watching Gervinho of Le Mans.
Apparent Arsenal target Eljero Elia of FC Twente is now a target of Ajax who now have mega bucks after selling top striker Klaas Jan-Huntelaar to Real Madrid.
Eddie Griffin on soccerlens.com goes for:
Roma defender Philippe Mexes and AC Milan starlet Alexandre Pato are reportedly on Wenger's wishlist.
Nigel Brown on Sport.co.uk links us to a few youngsters:
Arsene Wenger is tracking young starlet Henri Saivet of FC Girondins de Bordeaux, who has drawn comparisons with Arsenal legend Thierry Henry. The French forward who was born in Senegal is the youngest ever player in Bordeaux's history and a French U-17 and U-19 international. 18 year old Saivet could cost Wenger up to £3 million in the January transfer window.
Further reports last week suggested that Wenger had also been tracking two other French youngsters, Lille duo Eden Hazard and Yohan Cabaye.
And various sources reckon we will buy back Patrick Vieira.
My views:
Mexes? Do not rate him, sorry.
I think we have no chance of Pato, and have no need of that type of developing attacking player.
Van Bommell may be a goer, especially as Silvestre is an example of older players signing, though I would worry about his speed.

Bafetimbi Gomis could make Prem move
St Etienne striker has heart set on Arsenal move

Despite the fact that the striker has only scored three goals in 18 league games this season (
) the interest in him does not appear to have waned.
Gomis went on to admit that there is one particular club he has his sights on if he came to England.
"Arsenal, I love the football there, it is a joy for any striker to play for that team," he added.
