Van Persie saga, officially not extending contract.

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

David Dein was on Sky Sports News this morning but I missed it, any idea what he said?

He was commenting on technology to help referee's. What I found interesting was the subliminal messaging and, if you play the interview backwards you can actually hear him saying "John Terry is going down" as well as "Kroenke, you're having a laugh". :?

So non-AFC related then. Anyone associated with R&W is treading very carefully at the moment!

wouldn't surprise me about the subliminal messaging though :barscarf:

I'm yet to give my thoughts on this shambles as around this time every year since 06 I tend to go into oblivion as the clouds get darker over our club, so here goes: First of all no player is bigger than the club we have seen great players come and go many times before, some through our boards lack of ambition/not paying big enough wages, and others that our manager at the time has wanted to move on. With RVP I think it is both a lack of ambition and a few extra bucks that makes him wantaway, but what is most sad about this whole situation is for me it sums the 'feeder club' tag we have been given. IMO We are now a feeder club, which certainly suits the embarrassingly stupid 'self sustaining module' - Sell your best player every year and then we can break even and maybe spend 25% of any incoming transfer monies on some dog replacement that is gonna take 2-3 years to do anything, and when he does sell him too. :banghead:
I for one would not boo RVP on a return (provided he dosn't directly disrespect Arsenal fans) what he said about the club and the way it is run I wholeheartedly agree with.
Why can these idiots not see that If we continue to adopt this ridiculous way of running a club then QPR will be ahead of us in less than a decade.
Stan & Ivan are blinkered horses that will never get to the finish line of this 'project' they call running our beloved club is. Please may there be brighter days ahead. :x :( :x

Watched Highbury Years DVD last night....Derek Tapscott said that once he walked into the Marble Halls the thoughts of contracts , money etc disappeared. All he wanted to do was play for Arsenal. ..There is nobody saying that about any club now is there? Yeah, they talk of dreams fulfilled and kiss the badge , and then fuck off after the biggest pay master. Very easy for people to talk of the love of the club when earning twice as much at their new club.
When I watched the history of Highbury and listened to the comments of older players and supporters I realised that our club is now so soul-less. We play in a magnificent but soul-less branded arena, we sell our heritage to Nike to come up with whatever creation that masquerades as an Arsenal shirt that will sell for them. Our players are looking over their shoulders to see who is coming in with the biggest wad for them. Our board are happy to sit on their hands and watch the money coming in from new markets that won't question them or the direction the club is going in.
I began supporting Arsenal in 1972 beacause they lost the Cup Final, because when you were "Arsenal" in the schoolyard or back garden you pulled up your jumper sleeves to the shoulder so your "jersey " would have different coloured sleeves to the body. Because Highbury was the most romantic stadium in the world, because football people said the correct things about the club. I quoted Stan Matthews "every actor wants to play the West End and every footballer wants to play for The Arsenal" ..Joe Mercer " I thought the greatest honour in football was to captain England, but today I know it's to captain Arsenal"
Now I look at c**ts like Nasri, Kolo Toure (come join us Robin) , Cole, RVP, Adebayor..all nobodies made by our club, well they can fuck off with their patronising "I will always be a Gunner " They are not, the were guardians of a tradition and heritage that they are not worthy of. We as supporters are, because it's ours we can't our wouldn't walk away from it.

Good post I agree but them direction of any organisation comes from the top donwn and in our case it comes back to the board - for me the single most important act that set us on a money focused path was the changing of the crest. I know that we had changed the crest previously in our history but this was the first time (correct me if I'm wrong) that we changed it for monetary gain  Is it reasonable for the players to disregard money when the "custodians" of our club will sell tradition for cash ?

It may not be a pc thing to say but when you talk about loyalty to the club then you cannot disregard the fact that most of these players are foreign - these players did not grow up as Gooners nor did they even grow up as British or Irish so they travelled over here for work, earn their money and return home

dont know the reasons but my bet would be every crest change was a 'rebranding' exercise and they were hoping for more people through the turnstiles
(good post BradyW)
