THE WENGER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

When men have sons it allows them to do childish things again like play football and cowboys and Indians in the garden. I have four children ranging from 21 to 17 year old twins...They have no interest in football or any sport, (my daughters have an interest in how good looking or otherwise that players are) I did bring my oldest lad to Highbury twice (freakishly he saw Francis Jeffers score in both games)..but he would not know or care who Arsenal play tomorrow or any day. I am glad that they will never suffer the mental anguish of a football fan, I mean that genuinely..I would love to have them want to go to games with me but I am happier that they are not succumbed to mood swings etc by the fortunes of a football club.
Augie if you do take your lad to see City at sometime in the future, avert your eyes if they lift a big shiny silver thing into the air.. It's called a trophy and it's a bit like being kept in the dark for years...staring at the sun on first seeing it can lead to damage to your eyes.

Rodders. Old mate. I hate to say "I told you so".

BUT I FUCKING TOLD YOU SO!!!

Arsene will leave when Arsene decides. That's one of the benefits of owning your own business and being your own boss with no one to answer to.

I see your point augie. But to me it's bollocks. You earn the good times through the pain and misery of the bad times. My kids are Gooners. And Gooners they stay, unless they fancy being homeless at 8 and 9 years old. They can come home at any stage in their life and tell me they are gay, or they have murdered someone, or they are having a sex change op, and I will still love them as my kids. But if thay walk in that door and tell me they are now Manure or Scum fans then they are fucking getting shot.

(and no, PC arseholes, I'm not equating being gay with being a criminal. And yes, I do realise that entire sentence describes all of SPUDMASHER's current traits)

I don't know what I am more shocked about - him saying that we can still win the league or him sitting grinning and saying that he is continuing.

if he announced that he was leaving at the end of the season he could have left with his legacy just about intact.
now he is just going to get hounded out of the club and it will be a sad end.

Scholes in himself is not the relevant thing, it is what he said and more importantly he didn't patronise Arsenal by beginning his opinion by heaping false praise on Arsenal's style and Arsenal's manager.. His opinion is relevant as he himself was a winner, he had and still has a winners mentality, he hated Arsenal because they were a threat to his club's domination. I would respect Scholes comments 1,000 more than all the cliche merchants put together that pollute our TVs every day. Hated him as a player as did most non Manure fans.

Hang on a minute, no need for suicide watch just yet. We'll see if the old duffer still wants to sign a new contract after we crash to 5th and lose the FA Cup.

Wouldn't have been such a fuss if it wasn't for Wenger's utterly arrogant and disrespectful response. From what I saw Scholes wasn't launching a personal attack on Wenger and he wasn't second guessing or dissecting Wenger's management. He gave his opinion that we are miles away from winning the league.

It's one thing belittling the average fan's opinion but it's unbelievably disrespectful and bollocks to suggest a bloke who has won 11 PL titles has no idea of a team's title credentials. Given that Scholes won 8 more titles than Wenger has I'm inclined to think he has a good idea about what it takes to win the league, more than Wenger does.

In Wenger's mind the only people who can criticise him are fellow experienced managers - and if they comment on his record it's disrespectful. I honestly think this is every bit as disrespectful as the 'specialist in failure' comments and not provoked like in that case. I hate Scholes and I imagine he makes a terrible pundit as he's notorious for shying away from the camera but Wenger's comment reflects extremely badly on the club.
