THE WENGER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

This ^^. 8)

Of all the Wenger criticism on here over the years that one sentence above is probably the most concise I've read. Very very sad, but very very true. :|

Funny but I always felt that djouru had the materials to become a good defender - did he not fulfill his potential because he stopped developing/learning or maybe he suffered by playing in a team that didnt coach defence ? Would he be a better defender now if he was being coached by bouldie ? :rubchin:

Going by this I would say that 60% of the home fans are still in favour of the Wenger cult. :banghead:

"spirit" in the squad
"Mental" toughness
"fight"

for a polyglot who's lived in England for 17 years he sure has a limited lexicon.

youth policy: is that the same policy started something like 9 years ago?

Wenger Out Now.

Isn't it sad and pathetic that not only we have a deluded manager, we also have a bunch of deluded fans

Why are we endlessly chasing kids when there is quality in the market now, for a price.

This was his plan all along, when they said we'd have restricted finances he knew he would be able to carry out project youth.

Now it's set to continue? There is no hope for us. Incredible arrogance to think, he can redefine what Arsenal FC represents.
Totally agree with you mate.

And the fact that he started the same youth development thing at Monaco when they didn't have a stadium to pay for is proof (in my eyes anyway) that 'project youth' was something Wenger wanted to do regardless of the circumstances he was working under.

The Emirates stadium was the excuse he needed to give him the opportunity to give it another go at an established club. The restrictions he has been working under have been greatly exaggerated but it needed to be put across that way to justify his lack of net spending when it comes to transfers.

And yet at the same time, the amount spent on wages is massive and completely contradicts the ''financially restricted'' suggestion. Since Arsenal last won a trophy they have spent well over £750m on wages. The third highest after Chelsea and Man United in that same period. Nobody can look at that and say Wenger's hands have been tied ... but that's exactly what they do say.

Your last paragraph is absolutely right. Wenger is extremely selfish and his arrogance is off the scale. Yet thousands see him as a man who has made personal sacrifices for the club. :banghead:

Its got to the stage where I don't want to support the same club as these people. I always try and respect different opinions but there is a limit and its impossible to feel any unity with so many Arsenal fans these days.

That group of people at 1.07 are exactly the kind of people I don't want to be associated with. Saying ''look behind you'' and pointing at the Emirates and then claiming ''he built us that'' is the most deluded bollocks of all. Wenger is not fucking Jack Walker dipping into his own pockets.

Selling Highbury and taking out a bank loan built the stadium. Not Wenger!

There's several ways of looking at it though.Without the success of the years prior would we have been in a position to build the stadium in the first place?

Who cares what involvement Wenger had in the stadium, what it comes down to, is some fans are so deluded that they think having a big stadium is success, it isnt. Success, is winning trophies, the success we have had since moving to that big block, is higher ticket prices, a lack of signings, and the fans constantly being lied to by either the manager, or the chief exec, really successful :banghead:
