i found a genre that i had never heard of, a few weeks ago, and haven't listened to anything different since then. i'm an ignorant when it comes to the majority of arts, but in case it's news to anyone as well, i recommend it:
it's
math rock. a mix between 90's alternative rock (washington area stuff), progressive rock and erm, i don't know. it's so different to most stuff i'm used to, that i find it hard to categorize.
couple of cool tunes:

How did you miss it the first time round?!

There were some great sounds came out of the alternative and indy scenes in the 90's.

Mosh pits. Expect mosh pits.
Avenged Sevenfold have mellowed alot on their latest album and are now more of a classic metal band but FFDP are still proper hardcore. There will be moshing, sid. Moshing and bruising. And crowd "movement". Think North Bank circa late 80's and a goal against the scum in the NLD. Now add loud music.

Moshing

I will be stood at the back with a glass of house red, if the young'un wants to get moshed then that's up to him.

absolutely - i'm a great fan of bands like The Pixies, Rocket From The Crypt, Superchunk, and all that altrock stuff, just never been into that bizarre mix of that with progressive rock, and layers and layers of guitar riffs, dynamic changes, etc.
really cool

I hated Grunge and all that shit. Killed off some great british rock bands as they either stopped playing blues/sleaze rock or hard rock and went grungey or disappeared.

Just recovered from my O2 experience with Avenged Sevenfold, Five finger death punch and some Swedish band called Avatar.
Well I have to say I enjoyed it, if not for the music but for the entertainment value, Avatar were pure Spinal Tap and the others just what you would expect from American metal bands.
FFDP in particular were a charming group of young men, apparently we were all "mother fuckers" but they loved us and even performed a track called "burn mother fucker"
Sevenfold were excellent, though not exactly my cup of tea.
Any way my son had a mother fucking great time and by the time I'd put away as much Guinness as I've managed in one session in many years, I would have fucked the first grandmother to come my way.
And yes DB there were mosh pits aplenty, which were fucking hilarious, the floor just opened up and all these kids would knock 6 shades of shite out of one another for about 30 seconds then resume their "devil horns" stance.

Best review of a gig I have EVER read!!

Brilliant, Sid.
Have to admit in my younger days I loved the mosh pits.
Motherfuckers.

Off to see The Mission in Cologne in a couple of hours. Shame I cannot watch the Chavs game at the same time. Hope Arsenal do get a result.

Nice one Poldi, hope ol' Mr. Hussey was still a 'Tower of Strength' or was it a case of his ' Bridges ' well and truly burnt. Remember seeing them play the now defunct SFX in Dublin twenty something years ago and they were brilliant, backed up by a band called 'Red Lorry, yellow lorry' if my memory serves me well. Would have liked to catch their dates with Fields of The Nephilim in early December but new baby and have to play grown up some what. As it turned out, much better call to watch the gig over the annual Chavski no show
