Van Persie may sign new Arsenal deal

Arsenal captain Robin van Persie could reportedly perform a surprising u-turn by committing his future to the club, just days after revealing he would not sign a new deal.

Van Persie will be out of contract this time next year, and last week revealed in a statement that he had decided against extending his stay at the Emirates Stadium following a disagreement regarding the club's future direction.

It has since been suggested that the 28-year-old striker could be sold before the start of the new season, with Manchester City credited with interest, in order to avoid losing him for nothing in 12 months.

However, according to Sky Sports News, Van Persie's contract situation is far from certain - despite his previous comments - and the Dutchman could yet pen an extension when Arsenal chief-executive Ivan Gazidis returns from holiday.

In his statement, Van Persie claimed not to have even discussed contract terms with Arsenal and, it would appear, is willing to do so following the backlash from Thursday's revelation.

Meanwhile, one possibility for Van Persie has definitely been ruled out after Paris Saint-Germain manager Carlo Ancelotti claimed he was not interested in signing the PFA Player of the Year.

"Robin van Persie is not our target," said Ancelotti.

"But I think there are a number of other clubs who are interested in him."

++++++++++++++

So, he could do a U-turn?  Probably after no one has really come in for him....Hmmm, I dare say that if he does sign a new contract, he'll definitely be on his toes next season...anyway, I'm beyond caring now...

I will be fcuking disgusted at and will lose all respect for rvp if he does a u turn like that   Yes I want him to stay but if this was a ploy to get the club to spend some money then he needed to show a bit more backbone when the inevitable backlash comes from a small % of the fans and at least be seen to stick to his guns for another month or so  If he camves now he will look like a spineless c**t and some will question if he is only staying for fear of the backlash which I don't believe would be the case

+1
I would love Robin to stay, but unless he is holding us to ransom for a month or more just to see who we strengthen with, then he should just fuck off right now. I don't want this drawn out over the whole off-season where we sit and wonder...is he in, or is he out....FFS :banghead: we've had enough of that shit the last few seasons.

I still feel him releasing his statement early has brought on that watershed moment for Arsenal that a lot of us have been hoping for the last few seasons.

But nothing has happened since his statement, its all gone quiet so how has it shaken the board?

Unless there are moves bubbling that we don't know about but I ain't holding my breath.

My guess is that it won't happen but I have no doubt that if it does it is simply because one of the clubs he was hoping for haven't come in for him and the rest ain't offering his ego a better position then he has here.

I'm sure for all the money in the world he won't want to go to City and have the humiliation of sitting on the bench and sharing time with Tevez, Aguero, Dzeko and Balotelli when he was the main.man.at a club.

We heard the same bull about Cesc last summer that he would be sitting on the bench at Barca with Xavi and Iniesta around.Cesc played more games than Iniesta

Totally different situation.

On RVP, all players do shit like this. Remember Rooney a few years back? A similar statement came out from him. Its a job for them at the end of the day. I'm sure we would all do the same. What I don't like is they're not honest about it.

saw that on me twitter before, someone had a link to the story on the sky website with the story but its been taken off now, was just basically saying according to sky sources he still could sign when they talk next week, similar to the rooney situation, dont buy it though.
Those rumours are just... well, rumours.

I also saw it on Twitter with a link going to 'www1.skysports.com/...'
Basically, this was just an article made up by someone who made a copy of the Sky Sports website.
