As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.
i don't see why any top manager would leave their current position to work with an ageing, difficult and poor squad - look at Dortmund, Bayern, Real Madrid's, Athletico's squads, way likely to achieve more than United in the next 12 months.
its a catch 22 - you need a top manager to attract top players, but you need top players to attract a top manager.
They're still the biggest club in the world: be realistic, a top manager would always join United before a team like Dortmund or Athletico - the sheer magnitude of their stature as club attracts them more than anything.
Managing United is among the most high profile job in the world, not to mention they're likely to command a sizable salary.
It doesn't matter if other teams will be better than United for the next 12 months, that's only for the short term. When United get back on track they'll become a dominant force yet again.
I wonder if they said the same about Leeds all them years ago.
In all seriousness, Fergie knew there was nothing he could do and that's why he retired. He was lucky to get the title last year. United could either rebuild or crumble. Its possible that they would want that "Class of '92" mob to take over but its unlikely that it would pay off at all.
It was bound to happen for United, all teams go through a dire period. Some longer than others but it happens.

I never said United are the most successful club, I said biggest.
Granted, Madrid is on par with United and both share top spot for global shirt sales, but there's no way in hell Munich or Milan are as popular worldwide as United are.
Fanbase, shirt sales, commercial deals, etc. United command way more than anyone.

Real Madrid says "Hi".
As do Munich and Milan.
Ah stop - the milan era ended years ago and they would no longer be classed as being amongst the top 8-10 clubs in world football. It's actually debatable if they are the biggest club in italy as I would think that juve are a bigger club with a more successful history and bigger support in their own country

Reminds me of another of Wenger's 'greatest ever achievements'. On the rare occasion that we did win the CL Group, getting drawn against the Dads Army of Milan and getting walloped 4-0, before another 'moral victory' second leg
Jesus fucking wept......I've had to turn the TV over from Sky Sports and switch the radio off.......anyone would think that it was the reincarnation of Christ himself. Fuck me - Giggs this, Giggs that......I think the journos will need to borrow my specially reinforced VT plastic pants if United win tonight
Come on Norwich - spoil the fucking party and give us all a good laugh
All the plastic mancs are back out in force on facebook in the last day or two I see. Wanking over how great it's gonna be with Giggs & Scholes in charge In the words of the Glorious Leader "we have to accept that these people with opinions have managed zero games in football."
