Don't see how you can tap up a player that can talk to any club he wishes? We're entitled to contact him/his agent directly which must be more "unsettling" then articles in newspapers?
Really? Surely its not unsettling at all to be talking to a player/agent and offering him a deal straight off rather than saying we're interested and who knows (if no actual contact has been made) and if contact
has been made then why mention it in the press? If you complain about barca making statements about our players, for example, you have to be squeaky clean yourself and we aren't so we have no right to complain

So can we not do all this in private then ? What purpose does going public serve ? If anything we are alerting other clubs that we are interested in signing him and that could in turn push them to make their move early

Mind you that might be part of wenger's masterplan so that he could then turn around and say that we tried to sign him

"We have looked at Holtby, and have played against him."
That's literally the only specific comment made about the player. Hardly on the same scale as the shit the barca lot were coming out with. Also agree with ldb, he's free to talk to any club he wishes so saying we've looked at him is hardly tapping up.

Mate fans slate Wenger when he doesn't say anything about potential transfers and now you're criticising him for confirming his interest in a player. He can't win either way.

Then he needs to make his fucking mind up does he discuss players or not? It works both ways or is it just when it suits him

Blame the journalists who ask him the same question every interview

I dont know but its not something worth getting wound up about.
Just looked at the quotes
"We have looked at Holtby, and have played against him."
Hardly announcing a done deal, I'm sure we "look at" lots of players

So its the people asking the questions fault? Not the person answering the them in different ways depending on what suits him? and then making a big deal about other clubs answering them in the same way?

I agree that he gets peppered with the same questions all the time. I've watched press conferences where he's been asked the same question a few times.
But why does he fucking answer them? He can refuse to speak on a subject without having to have the reverence Ferguson commands, or without the petulance of Mourinho or Dalglish.
Take the example of the lack of FA charge against Ferguson. What Wenger said was measured and conservative. But we all knew it would get completely misreported and blown out of proportion, and sure enough BBC lead with the story. Why didn't he just say that it was nothing to do with him or Arsenal?

Here, on the other hand is something worth getting wound up over
“It’s very difficult, because the level of expectation is very high. People want to come in, they want to see Lionel Messi,” the Arsenal manager said. “They don’t want to see a promising guy. First of all, the name gives hope. When a guy has no name people are already sceptical. So it’s much more difficult for us.”
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/footba ... indow.html
The arrogance of thinking he creates his own players, which incidentally hasn't been remotely true for going on half a decade now. The dismissive and patronising approach to the concerns of the people who pay his massively inflated salary. Never has one man's insult applied so much to himself (feeding them sausages and telling them its caviar).

All jokes aside it's yet another shite player who has been of little to no use to the club for months and months, has soaked up millions in wages and yet we can't shift permanently because he's digging his heels in because nobody will pay him the stupid money we do.
I bet we'll still be paying a considerable chunk of his wages. And to make it worse he'll be fucking useless there because at least Vaz Te has a bit of dynamism instead of being a carthorse, and Andy Carroll is ten times the striker Maryanne is.
