Hardly a "shock" though, misleading headline.

http://redlondon.net/2014/01/20/arsenal ... etirement/
He's not out of contract until next summer. He's not a money-grabber like Denilson, Bendtner, Djourou etc but is he going to give up his comfortable cash cow? No way imo.
Would not call Denilson or Djourou "Money Grabbers.".
They seemed to be in decent physical shape, but they were just not good enough.
Denilson was good when he first arrived, he just kept regressing until he became awful.
Bendtner on the other hand is a nut!

As for Diaby, I do not know, but maybe he is now at a point in time where he has a contract clause that pays up more in insurance because he has to retire through injury, than the remaining total money owed him in wages?

Or maybe he will simply walk away and leave wages untouched?
Would be extraordinary, but I will not judge him until the full story emerges.
As you can tell I'm rather cynical Quartz - the reason I brand them money-grabbers is because Denilson knew his Arsenal career was finished in 2011 and said he wanted to leave the club - yet spent 2 seasons on loan before actually moving. Likewise Djourou has long been surplus to requirements yet elected to spend the second half of last season on loan and the whole of this season on loan at a different club instead of agreeing to move full-time because of the inevitable wage cut.

To me that screams of players who know their Arsenal careers are finished but would rather jeopardise the progression of their own career by only opting for loan rather than permanent moves so that they can continue to milk the cash cow.

And before anybody points it out, of course I know they are perfectly entitled to claim what we've stupidly agreed to pay them. But it doesn't mean I can't slag them off for it.
The clubs fault for putting them on inflated wages. Put yourself in Denilson's shoes, do you take a pay cut to get a permanent transfer in order to do a favour for the foreign club (Arsenal) that has deemed you not good enough or get your first team football on loan for a couple of seasons with more dosh in your pocket? For me that's the dictionary definition of a no-brainer. And I think the argument that being on loan rather then a permanent is harming their career is a bit weak. Worst comes to the worst and the loan club doesn't want to sign them then when they run down their Arsenal contracts they'll be in a good position to negotiate decent free-transfer wages.

Edit: I didn't see your last sentence. But I've pointed it out anyway

I don't begrudge the great man a penny of that 60k per week. He's given me more pleasure in his 178 games with his flashes of genius than most Arsenal players ever have

No, its only the 4th placed trophy and the CL Group stage that make that happen

There for all to see on the official website. The great man has been racking up the appearances since that stunning performance against Villa in 2006. Will be nine and a half years when his contract ends......the Self Harmer needs to extend it by at least a year so we can have the much deserved testimonial in 2016

Surprisingly 71

I think in the other 107 games, he was substituted in the 88th minute in order to get applause for yet another majestic performance

2014/15 will be the year when Abou makes a lot of folk round these parts eat some big helpings of humble pie

We won't need to rush him back to rescue our Virtual Trophy bid this time round as that fictional piece of silverware will be being polished with the virtual Mr Sheen long before the final day of the season

So with a proper pre season to get fully fit and a starring role on the pre-season tour I think Abou will be the shining light of next season....just in time for those crucial contract extension talks

The only shining light that will involve Diaby will be from the fucking ambulance he's in  :banghead:
