Chippy you know as well as i do that you don't need to be part of the single market to trade with it, how do you think every other country outside the EU manages?

Well done for missing my obvious point Chippy, in your post in reply to A11M11's above you said about squaring the circle, that circle doesn't exist as the quote in his post clearly states trading with the single market not being in it.Chippy wrote:But you can't be part of the single market without freedom of movement. Quite clear that most Brexit voters wanted to stop immigration. How do you square that circle?A11M11 wrote:Nothing like a good scary headline , then in the script
:- A Department for International Trade spokeswoman said: “Our priority will be to get the best deal for Britain, and this includes allowing British companies to trade with the single market in goods and services.
But that doesn't suit the use of 2" letters.
so they will be more concerned about losing our trade and be keen to establish new deals.A11M11 wrote:Then negotiate the tariffs. I believe that we are are the largest market they have , we certainly buy more from them than they buy from us.
Full fact .org :- The value of trade to the UK and the rest of the EU—we exported about £220 billion worth of goods and services to the rest of the EU in 2015, according to UK data, while the rest of the EU exported somewhere around £290 billion to us. These figures differ if you use EU data. What this means is that the rest of the EU sells more to us than we sell to it.
We have no trade negotiators, and we cannot negotiate a new deal until we leave. The recent Canadian deal took 8 years, is much smaller than any deal we might do and doesn't cover services, the most important part of the UK economy. The rest of the EU might export more to us but in percentage terms it is small. 40+% of our exports go to the EU. About 5% of EU exports come to us. In addition only 3 EU countries have a surplus with us Germany, France and Netherlands. Yet the deal has to be agreed with all 27 countries. The most optimistic forecast I have seen of doing a deal with the EU is 10 years.StuartL wrote:so they will be more concerned about losing our trade and be keen to establish new deals.A11M11 wrote:Then negotiate the tariffs. As a country, and also as individuals, Britain still has money in its pocket to spend on new cars, clothes, holidays etc - the European countries that are already struggling big time cant afford to lose our spending power by not trading with us.
It would be cutting off your nose to spite your face.
Trade deals aren't negotiated by private companies, they are agreed between respective government departments.A11M11 wrote:Then we must look elsewhere. Forget VW/Audi , BMW , Mercedes , Renault , Peugeot , Citroen et al , Ssangyong , Toyota , Tata will all do deals and that's just the company car industry.

In fairness A11M11 wasn't suggesting Tata were European; quite the opposite. Read it again more carefully. Just saying like!nut flush gooner wrote:Trade deals aren't negotiated by private companies, they are agreed between respective government departments.A11M11 wrote:Then we must look elsewhere. Is this what they meant when there wasn't any real brexit plan, we will just make it up as we go along. Also Tata is not a European company, just saying like.
