Aside from Vela and perhaps Arshavin it's going to be hard to unload that pile of dross..mcdowell42 wrote: Marouane Chamakh and Nicklas Bendtner could be two of 10 players who might leave Arsenal this summer as Arsene Wenger revamps his squad.

If we can cut the wage bill and make a couple of QUALITY signings (not last day of the window, on the cheap like last year) I will be a happy gooner.
Yann M'Vila would be an ideal replacement for Song and to be honest I have no idea why we are not chasing Kagawa- hes cheap at a reported £7m and would be a perfect fit for our system, an attacking central midfield player who scored 17 goals this season in Germany would do for me.
If we lose RVP though we really are up creek without a paddle. I just dont want next season to be groundhog day.
Not holding my breath though

7m? Doubt that. Kagawa will cost at least €15m or so.. belive me

Re: McDowell's VANITY 'Rumours' Thread
yeah, but he is entering his last year, so a cheaper move is more likely.kite wrote:7m? Doubt that. Kagawa will cost at least €15m or so.. belive me
Re: McDowell's VANITY 'Rumours' Thread
15m is a cheaper move. This guy is pure class. Maybe the best player of the team at the moment.. he ist really that good. In Germany they write that Dortmund might consider selling him for 15m but nothing less.RioGooner wrote:yeah, but he is entering his last year, so a cheaper move is more likely.kite wrote:7m? Something tells me we've been there 'rudderless' for the past 4 seasons now WB, if RVP does go, which is looking possible, then we'll just go over the rapids sooner than anticipated.Wengerball wrote:If we can cut the wage bill and make a couple of QUALITY signings (not last day of the window, on the cheap like last year) I will be a happy gooner.

That is an EXCELLENT analysis and description of our 'Situation', can we get him a job on the Arsenal Staff!? It says it all what we are thinking and what everybody knows...maybe if we all print off a copy and send it to AW, Gazidis and Kreonke (And Usmanov).....frankbutcher wrote:http://www.thefootballnetwork.net/main/ ... 177679.htm
Well spotted Frank

This so hits the nail on the proverbial head:
"The problem is that we carry over 70 pro players, (this is about 20 more than most other clubs), we pay our top stars less than they could get at other top clubs, and we pay middle rank player and younger players more than they could get elsewhere. So its simple really, make harsher decisions on who will make it or who are needed, sell those that are not required, even at a loss, spread the wages saved on those that deserve the big pay packet more."
This once again reminds me, what has confused me (and okay it doesn't take much!

Everyone is well aware that a lot of the youngsters will not make the cut to get in the first team, but are probably good enough to earn a decent living in the lower half of the prem or the Championship - but why do we persist on sending them out on loan for more than a season ? (obviously, as nobody will buy them and pay the wages they are on)
If they were good enough they would get games in the Cups and sporadically in the league matches.
If they are not then get rid, what is the point of loaning Vela / Watt / Lansbury / season in season out ?
Some players have been here for years already and will never be good enough to be a first team player, so sell them and get them off the wage bill.
3 players who are on, lets say £20,000 per week, (and most fringe players are on more than that) who contribute nothing to our squad could be replaced by a quality addition on the £60,000 who would.
Its not quantity, its having the right quality.

Apparently lucio is leaving inter Milan this summer - I know that he is 34yrs old but would he be worth a punt if the asking price was reasonable ? Pace and physicality certainly wouldn't be an issue with him imo

Lucio was a fucking beast in his prime. Still a good player, never been great at defending so would fit in well.augie wrote:Apparently lucio is leaving inter Milan this summer - I know that he is 34yrs old but would he be worth a punt if the asking price was reasonable ?
