Van Persie saga, officially not extending contract.

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

He's back in training this week... i'm going to say on Wednesday we'll find out about a mysterious injury which will prevent him from taking part in the pre season friendlies.

If he's to be sold he'll need to be fit.

I can't see this magical "turnaround" happening where he signs an extension, and to be honest I'm not sure after this season once he's 30 he'll ever hit the dizzy heights again. Injury prone. 1 good season in 8. Our team plays around him, others don't. I think he'd struggle elsewhere...

but RVP won't go there - obviously he will go to whoever pays the most money
and that means one of the oil funded murderous middle eastern monarchy teams
Off course they are a bigger club but that is not the debate.

He wants to leave a club that doesn't match his ambition but may join a club who has sold 2 of their biggest players to.fund others, sound familiar?

No. I know we sell our biggest players and don't fund any others afterwards but other than that.... ;)

I know you are only joking but we spent 50m last Summer and people often forget that.

That's the point though, players get sold, players get bought.

this.

this season is going to be the same, podolski + giroud + someone else will be around 45m, which should be less than what we get for van persie + walcott, let alone the other inexpensive dross that we'll sell (like vela for 4m, bendtner, etc).

we get profit in every single transfer market. if i could have only one question to be answered sincerely by the arsenal board, my question would be "who defines that we must get profit in every transfer window"?

at least that way i would know who it is that i want to murder so badly :D

Nasri was labelled on here as a bottlejob. Clichy was talked of as being a liability.

Seems that whilst they're here they are labelled as average but once we've sold them you class them as good players?

Hell, some posters were even calling for RVP to be sold asap a year ago...

Nasri IS a bottlejob and I don't think there is even 1% of Gooners bemoaning his departure - what people are moaning about is not the sales but replacing them with inferior players and I don't think that you can disagree with that sentiment. The whole concept for every club is that when you sell players then you replace with equal or better quality if you are a big club. If you are an everton type of club then your aim is different cos when you sell a top player you try and use the money to buy maybe 2 players who individually will not be as good but they might actually make your team better. If we are serious about winning trophies then we cannot keep putting ourselves back at the starting line - we are no longer a strong enough team that we can afford to blood the likes of Ramsey, jenkinson or whoever cos we don't have enough players to guide them nor do we have enough quality to cover their inevitable mistakes so when you hear fans complaining about the sales of clichy, nasri etc then try and accept the point that you know they are making
