What's the deal with Sneijder?? - he's been frozen out at Inter and has now said he'd like to play in the Premier League. Have his knees blown up or something?

because surely EVERY top club should be after this guy?
Now, the guy is 28 and a couple of years ago was the stand out player for Mourinho's Inter side. He oozed class, so presumably (unless I've missed something?) he's the sort of player we SHOULD be moving heaven and earth to bring in.
He's vastly experienced, the right age, and a world class player available for a knock down price owing to his bizarre situation at Inter.
How can we not be interested? - especially as he's exactly what we need. We're desperate for creativity, and having Sneijder central with Cazorla pushed wide (which he's done for much of his career), or vice versa, would surely add more creativity and quality than what the other wide players we have currently offer??
Anyway, I know it won't happen and no doubt wage demands will blow us out the water, but this guy was gold not so long back.

we can only dream of sneijder,15 years ago he'd have been ours instantly, now he's the kind of player that we never ever get,the days of us signing another Bergkamp are history,Sneijder is the kind of player we are craving imo,

i guess the 200k a week wages are the stumbling block,we cant even get past 100k with Walnutt

He has fallen out with Inter due to the fact he would not accept a pay cut. Allegedly he was signed by the old administration of the club on a 200k a week deal net of tax which the club simply cannot afford.
Inter see this as unreasonable and so have frozen him out.
With that attitude and those wages I cannot see many clubs being interested in him despite his obvious talent.

1. We won't be able to match the wages he'd want.
2. It would "kill" Wilsher, Cazorla and Arteta
I'd rather we sold diaby, rosicky, denilson and brought in Sneijder but we know that will never happen

Old Rosie - steady on fella, one of the most highly-rated players in Europe? Then why is he being courted exclusively by second-tier clubs? As said above if he was that good then far better clubs would have been after him, especially on a free.
Fact is that plenty of clubs have pissed over us in recent times and despite the press getting excited about him I certainly didn't feel he was anything like a standout player for them over the two games. They're far from a great side so the fact alone of him being a regular nowhere near warrants this hysteria in itself.
Until about 3 months ago nobody knew anything about this guy and as soon as somebody cottoned on the fact that there might be a decent player with an English connection playing abroad he suddenly became a great player in the space of a few days. People always have such supposedly detailed opinions on foreign players but be honest, how many times have people seen him play? It's laughable that he's being referred to as "Germany star Lewis Holtby" given that he's received a token 3 caps to tie his eligibility down.
People here were fuming that we didn't sign Dempsey and I know plenty who were annoyed we weren't in for Sigurdsson. Grass is always greener. He may well turn out to be quality but people are making out like Spurs have pulled off a Bergkamp-like coup.

As much as I'd love Sneider toplay for us £200k(allegedly netto) a week is going to put everyone off bar the most stupid club chairman.
I'd rather get Cabaye off the barcodes for probably about £15-20million and £90k a week.
If Sneider's on a free though, it would be almost worth it. Shift the squid,Rambo,Diaby and Tomas. that's about £240k a week by my rough guesstimate.....bargain

Thanks mark/Old Rosie... £200k... that's the end of that then.
Then again, we're no doubt paying gimps like Arshavin, Gervinho, Chamakh, Santos, Park, Bendtner, Djourou, Fabianski, Diaby, Squillaci and Denilson a combined wage of FAR MORE than £200k a week, and they contribute the grand total of fuck all

so, all of a sudden, paying £200k for a genuine world class player like RvP or Sneijder who would actually immensely improve our first team starts making more sense than paying a load of dross £40-80k each.

He is good, did v.well in the game against us at the Grove and his age works in his favour. He's 2nd tier that could develop into a world class midfield in this formation
Dembele Holtby
Sandro
That is a pretty good midfield that's 25yrs and under. But of those 3, it's Sandro I would love. Still a good midfield.

He is, or was, one of the most highly rated and sought after youngsters in Europe. Yes a youngster and so the dreaded word 'potential' comes into it but a very highly regarded young player all the same.
Yep he only has 3 Germany caps but he is the Germany Under 21 captain and when you look at the strength in the senior Germany midfield having just the 3 caps at that age is less than shameful.
Look I am not saying this guy is god or that he was necessarily right for us but what I am saying is it is disappointing that a player that is very well thought of in football circles has gone elsewhere. The fact it is to them lot amplifies this somewhat for me I confess.
I also said I understod the original point that we have more pressing needs than another young midfielder but I also think my point is valid that Rosicky and Arteta do not have much left in the tank and good old Abou will play his usual 32 minutes a season. Is Arteta going to be up to another full on Premiership campaign after this and we know Abou and Tomas are not. I was just looking at a bit of foward planning in the same way the Heebs have done.
At the end of the day he is a very good young player and he has gone to them wankers for diddly squat.
I find that very annoying.

the thing is that if Wenker signed him on 'potential' and he turned out to be dog shit like 50% of his signings we'd be wishing he'd signed a Sneijder type, the finished article,i know i would prefer finished articles these days,we've had 8 years of promising players and potential, the good ones end up at Barca the shit ones cant be off loaded, only world class players now Wenker, some funking chance

I'm glad we didn't go after Holtby who I think is just another average footballer. As for signing Sneijder at 200k per week only the freak shows at PSG or City will bother with him.
