In my opinion if Laca isn't going to be our main striker in the near future it is absolutely essential to get in a hold up player. I don't know much about Vlahovic or whatever his name is, but I do know that Calvert Lewin could play that role perfectly in this young team and offers the direct option which I'm afraid is needed when you go to the likes of Anfield, OT, Etihad etc. When Laca hasn't been there, the ball just comes straight back which is why we go under the pump for 20-30 minute spells and lose these games

I'm sure DCL would be priced very highly but which young striker isn't these days?

Of course a proper CDM rather than Clubfoot Clive would be great, but we all know he's so far up the manager's arsehole he'll still be a regular for years to come. Just need to hope Sambi gets sufficient chances to develop into the next big thing in that position and that Partey carries on recent form rather than the 18 months of gash that went before
Yeah, totally agree. A goalscorer would obviously be nice but an ability to hold up the ball and bring others into play is essential to get the best out of our attacking midfielders. A young Auba clone wouldn’t be a good fit.

DCL would be a great signing but insanely priced. I’ve only seen him a few times but Isak looks like he has a good all round game too. No idea about Vlahovic…. he’s 6’4” though so he’s quite a focal point.
Yeah Isak looked good in a bang average Sweden side - pace, strength and can play over the top or with back to goal. He would do nicely

To be honest, I find it better having a host of players who can weigh in with 10-12 goals rather than the over reliance we've had on Auba. If we brought in a Calvert Lewin or Isak, no doubt everyone would want to compare their goal scoring stats with Auba and I wouldn't for a minute believe they would be as good. However, if that target man can get 12-15, and ensure Martinelli, Saka, Smith Rowe and Odegaard are all chipping in with 8+, then I think its a healthier balance. Its no coincidence in my mind that those four have had better goalscoring returns since we had a proper target player up top.

When I think back to our best teams - not just the invincibles but '89, '91, '98 - there was always a group of players chipping in with those sort of returns
Just what I was thinking of as I read through your post SteveO - 89 we had the likes of Rocky, Marwood, Thomas all contributing goals - even the defence got a few between them. :barscarf: :barscarf:

Who would people like as the new striker ?

Isak, Vlhaovic, calvert Lewin are the ones linked , think there was a guy in France as well or any other ideas ?
Not sure Gabi is a centre forward yet , and Flo needs the loan , right decision.
Think the guy from France May well be David, who is a Canadian international. ?

Isak, from what I’ve seen would be my no 1 - I’ve seen him have some wicked games on YouTube

WTF? Apparently Roma will only be paying just over half of Maitland-Niles salary… and not even an option or obligation to buy! Are Roma taking the piss?
Uhmmmmmm!

"Yes". :?

I think we can ride out the season with Lacazette, Saka, Martinelli, ESR, Nketiah and Pepe as our attacking options. I'm more interested in our midfield options, Ramsey, Wiljmadum, Countinho been touted as being linked with us but I would like to see a more defensive type, Bissouma would be a choice, followed by Douglas Luiz from Villa. I'm not sure about European players as no one new has really stood out for me in French, Spanish and Italian leagues, and the champions League matches I've watched this season.

No to Courtinho from me too. He was great at Liverpool but has done fuck all since he left. He's had his day and we don't want another mega money earner biding their time at Arsenal.
Won fuck all at Liverpool but managed to win a champions League, la Liga, bundeslige, a couple of Copa del Reys, but yes done fuck all since he left Liverpool.
Also agree he is no longer a player that would fit with the "process".

🚨 Philippe Coutinho has chosen to join Aston Villa on loan from Barcelona. Agreement in place between clubs + with 29yo Brazil international creator. #AVFC boss & ex-#LFC team-mate Steven Gerrard was key. With @greggevans40 for @TheAthleticUK #FCBarcelona https://t.co/YkyYaKwTDb

Won't have to worry about us signing him now

If we signed a defensive or holding midfielder who had the same effect of Ramsdale/Tomiyasu. The team will go up a level.

Mind you I think expecting another Ramsdale effect is a bit much. We thought we were getting competition for Leno but signed keeper worthy of comparisons to Seaman. One of the best signings this club has made in the past 10 years. If we signed a midfielder version of Ramsdale this player would be the next Vieira.

A Tomiyasu esq player in midfield would do fine. Just an effective, reliable, capable and quality footballer with enthusiasm to match.

Xhaka's bridge is burned. I do not understand why he is still here. His toxic relationship with the fans, the fact we transfer listed him. The fact he is the weak link in the first team. I wouldnt even want him as 4th choice in the pecking order. Some players just have an expiry date and Xhaka's time at Arsenal its past its use by date. Its even more frustrating than usual because we actually have a light at the end of the tunnel. A title challenge next season is not outrageous but we cant carry deadwood. We battered City 11 v 11 but Xhaka pulled the thread and it all come apart. Fuking Bernado had no angle and was running toward the byline and Xhaka shit himself and grabbed the shirt. Yeah he didnt yank Bernardo's shirt and it was a pretty soft penalty, but as soon a you grab the shirt you run the risk of giving away a penalty. He cant be trusted.

🚨 Arsenal are trying to sign Fiorentina’s Dušan Vlahović 🇷🇸 this month. As things stand, Arsenal are in the strongest position to sign him. But there is a feeling at Fiorentina that Arsenal are not Vlahovic’s preferred destination. #AFC #Viola

I was thinking more along the lines of a Kevin Richardson type of player that George signed. Nothing flashy just did a reliable job.
