1984 - Scarey book.
Good book. If you want to read a very similar one (which influenced Orwell himself) you should pick up 'We' by Yevgeny Zamyatin.

Skull Session by Daniel Hecht. A great exploration ot tourettes syndrome.

Angels & Demons. The best Dan Brown novel. It makes DaVinci code seem crap.

Give anything by Neil Gaiman a go, mythology mixed with general weirdness would be the best way to describe his work. If you fancy heroic fantasy but find Lord Of The Rings a bit too stuffy then try the novels by the late great David Gemmell, start with his first effort 'Legend' and decide for yourself. For a good mix of Sci-Fi and horror, you can't go wrong with Michael Crichton.
