Sad day because Joe is and always has been a great fight. But good way to go undefeated, two weight undisputed champ, there really is no one else for him to fight so good time to retire.

Enjoy your retiremant Joe :box

Shame, would have liked to see him in a "retirement" fight. :(

To be honest i think we all expected him to retire, and who can blame him. Great career, and deserved all his success. Boxing will miss a true legend!!

I respect that as he has gone out on top.

There would always have been opponents for him to fight (Dawson, Froch, Johnson, Tarver, Erdei, Diaconu, Taylor, Woods), but with money in the bank, an unbeaten record and his health intact he has done the right thing.

I think he would have been in with a really good shout of beating Benn, Watson and Eubank at their peaks.

I'm glad he's retired and gone out at the very top. I hope he can keep out of the ring now and doesn't become like some of the other greats - be a Marvin Hagler rather than a Thomas Hearns, Joe!

Agreed...

He had more to lose than to gain by carrying on....

As you've shown quartz there are fights for him. But not one of the available fights is worth it. As well as they guys you've mentioned there is a Hopkins rematch. But Hopkins is not worth it. Although he put in that performace against pavlik, Joe outclassed him in their fight(it want just speed and stamina). Something which had never been done. Which hopkins and many would dispute, but watch the fight again, apart from 1 or 2 rounds joe picked him apart. So no need for as rematch.

When I say not worth it about the rest, i mean they're just not worthy to fight him, and he knows it, hence...

RETIREMENT

A BOXING LEDGEND.

I left out Hopkins, as though that might make sense from a business point of view, Calzaghe said he was not going to give Hopkins a rematch..plus I forgot about Hopkins!

The only opponent out of the list that I would have really liked to see would have been Dawson, as that would have been a good fight for the purist fan.

Yet from a business point of view Dawson is not well known so made little sense.

Froch?
He needs to stay at super-middle and clean up there before thinking about moving up.

Froch is a bit to young and unknown t make the money to entice joe into a fight but would have been a great technical fight.

Dawson was the fight I would have liked joe to retire on. Beat another undefeated champ and the retire, but Dawson will not sell tickets or ppv buys over here or in asia and europe, so bad business.

I just hope joe stays retired and dosent make a stupid comeback for money.

Looks like Froch vs Taylor is one so that will be another greaat fight :box:

Hey Quartz do you think Froch can beat Taylor? I think Froch may be underestimating him.

Yes indeed.

Taylor has moments where be throws brilliant combinations, but a lot of the time he is uncreative and too cautious.

I think Froch wins on points.

Firstly it has been said a few times I look a bit like Calazghe not sure why though? we are both undefeated in the ring though! good luck Joe!

I watched Frochs last fight I was impressed but his defence for poor he got hit far to many times for me he needs to work on that before bigger fights come up!
