as a fellow archway lad

i have 2 questions:
1. did you use photoshop and the polygonal lasso tool?
2. if you used photoshop, how did you get the glow sort of thing youve got going around him?
thanks in advance

You wouldn't be able to get that outer glow effect around Cesc only if it was all kept as one layer, here's how I believe he did it;
Selected Cesc using the lasso tool (or perhaps the pen tool), then right clicked on the selected shape & chose "Layer via copy". This would put the selected cutout of Cesc on a new layer above the original. On the original layer I believe he then selected Image>Adjustments>Desaturate to make the background black & white but keeping Cesc in colour. Then he selected the top layer (the Cesc cutout), chose Layer>Layer Style>Outer Glow & played around with the effects in there to get the glow effect around Cesc. Then it's Layer>Flatten Image & save as jpeg.
