Hi we're thinking on buying into the phenomenom that is HD!!! Can anyone advise as to the best average priced set for mainly watching football or sport in general. Ive tried a bit of fruitless searching on the internet, but have yet to find the definitive answer any help would be appreciated.

I'm no expert.

But I got a great big 50 inch plasma jobby. Samsung (shame they sponsor a shite football club), and it's fucking brilliant in the hd mode.

42 inches, and below, you don't want plasma.

Hi Thanks just being a little more specific Ive read that 100 htz technology gives the upmost viewing experience with 1080 full Hd . Can anyone give a view as to whether this is so or what gives the optimum picture quality.

100 htz is the shit (that means its good, olgit )

panasonic tend to do the best kit at a reasonable price across all screeen sizes, they're what i'd recommend

Don't buy a screen thats to big for your room, my mate bought a 50inch LCD and it's shit because the room is too small and close up the picture is fuzzy. 1080p is the jobby to get.

Bloke I play footy with did the same. His brother in law got a 42 inch so to outdo him he got a 72 inch and put it in his front room. It takes up nearly one whole wall in his small front room - there is about 4 inches of space either side of the telly!

Of course he had to lash in the surround sound too. It's fucking awful - big fuzzy screen and booming deafening noise...

I have a 42" samsung and it is plenty big enough for our lounge. I also have sky HD and I have to say that it is fantastic.

personally I think it is best on wildlife shows (the new one on Sunday nights is excellent by the way) and for sport. I watched The Broncos and Dallas a week or so back and it is incredible in HD. Arsenal v Blackburn was pretty good too.

Definitely worth getting it IMO.

You get a better, brighter picture with a plasma but for the first 200 hours you have to be careful of screen burn (whatever they tell you in shops it is still a problem with plasmas) and they use more energy than an LCD TV. Ive got a Sony 37 inch LCD and im more than happy with it. As someone else said Panasonic are the best LCD TV's to get but cost slightly more. www.dixons.co.uk have a good selection and good prices too. Also ive heard Sky HD broadcasts at 720p so unless you want a blue ray player you dont need a 1080p TV
