January Transfers..............

Post by TeeCee »

I found the transfer thread in the basement so I guess this may be moved but we really ought to have one in the chat section for now!!

I have a prediction.....based partly on history and partly on something Wenger said. He reportedly hinted at Chelsea and/or Man City potentially kicking off a bit of a transfer merry go round.......I think Wenger will go for Vincent Kompany if Man City sign a CB. He was watching him for ages before City signed him, he would cost around 5-6m, he is mid 20's.....I think, and he can also cover midfield. It's a certainty!! 8)

I assume AW is watching a lot of players for ages, ... but signing is another story

V. Kompany is not typical Arsenal-Wenger-style. I don´t think he will sign him or anyone else.

My thoughts on the strikers we've been linked with so far:

Dzeko - excellent player, could do very well for us. Problem is that I don't think spending 25-35 million on a player that can't play in the Champions League and has made it very clear that he wants to play for Milan and not for us would be a very wise move.
Huntelaar - Wenger seems to think that he can't move this transfer window because he's already moved twice last year. I don't know whether he is right, but what I do know is that I think that Huntelaar is overrated. Though I wouldn't say no if we could get him for a good price.
Gignac - I don't think he's good enough for us.
Chamakh - Bordeaux will never let him go now. His contract is up in the summer and they are still in the Champions League and they are fighting to win the French league.

Bottom line, none of those transfers are likely to happen and I think in general that's for the best. Of course we still need a striker, so that leaves Wenger in a difficult spot. Personally I don't see any strikers that are available, up to our standards and able to help us straight away the way Arshavin did last year, for instance. I'd be pleasantly surprised if Wenger can pull off a deal, but I'm not counting on it and I also wouldn't blame him if he couldn't.

i'm not really worried about strikers, to be fair. i truly believe in eduardo and think we can cope with him and arshavin until bendtner comes back.

i am worried about the fact the we have two good centrehalves and that's all and also worried about song's role. it doesn't look like diaby can do it, and i'm not sure if denilson will be fully fit so soon.

Insider information: Ruud Van Nistelrooy is flying into London at the moment to complete a loan deal at Arsenal until the end of the season.

yeah, the dm role is a difficult one.

Rumour has it that Denilson will be back for Wednesday. I hope it's true.

Im not sure the champions league issue is one that would worry Wenger Adebayor and Arshavin both singed when they were not eligable didnt they?

The Squad is doing superbly considering the players we have out, its needs strengthening for sure, obviously its better if they are free to play in ever game, but i dont think its essential.

saha & senderos swap deal. or is that just putting 2 and 2 together making 5.

on the surface we need 4 for a squad that could really challenge for top honours in my opinion...bog all chance we will get them all (max 2 this jan?) but the priority of each one changes in my mind regularly.

Defensive Midfielder
Back up CB
Number 1 Goalie
Physical Hold Up Striker.

At the moment my order is Striker,Keeper,CB,DM.Whats your order and why.

I agree 100%
We're not desperate to sign a striker TBH, 51 goal in half a season is amazing. Even with many strikers injured we manage to score and win games.
But I'm very worried by our 2 Center backs, if one of them is injured in the next half of the season we'll be fucked.

You really worry sometimes ****. Does Scotty know about this

Personally I think that we will sign somebody but it will be a virtual unknown again. There is no way he'll splash out (in a non-cumshot way) on a 'name'.
