Help required people.

The old DVD players finally given up the ghost, which is not bad as I've had it for 7 years.
I want to buy an HD-DVD player but according to Which, nobody makes them anymore because Blu-Rays the thing but they're supposed to be shit on the basics and there are still not as many Blu-Ray DVD films for sale as their are normal DVDs.

Is it worth getting the HD-DVDs for a year or two till the Blu-Rays get better OR bite the bullet and buy a Blu-Ray and upgrade as and when, OR just buy a good normal DVD player.

How are good DVD players with HD Tv's. I got a panasonic viera one at Xmas and noticed that the picture quality was average with my old DVD, is that pretty common or was my old DVD player just sh**e.

All replies much appreciated. :) :)

Get a dvd player that upscales to 720p or 1080p.... Basically this makes your normal DVD's look close to HD quality. Ive got an LG DVD recorder over a year ago for about £120 and it is superb. or you could get a PS3 that way you get a top gaming console that also plays Blu-ray films

PS3 is not happening. Partner's getting a wii and I'm not much of a gamer. I still prefer Astro wars to proper games console.

Cheers FG will check the usual sites for one of those.

I'm not a techie.

But I have a bluray player. Phillips. Less than £100.

Bluray discs are brilliant. Definition is so good, it's almost like 3-D.

But it also (IMO) improves the quality of ordinary DVDs.

I only buy bluray discs for the kind of films/programmes that need a big screen for maximum benefit...stuff with big special effects, or your David Attenborough stuff.

Worth paying a few quid extra for bluray.

Dont forget to connect the dvd player to the TV via a HDMI cable or you wont make the most of the player and dont spend fortunes on a cable, they are digital so either work or dont there isnt better or worse. Some cables cost £80 but get the cheapest HDMI cable you can £5 from Argos i think
