Flash, alot of the goals he scored in friendlies and exhibition games were lumped onto his career total, as I recall.

No worries BG Glad you like it!
And i wondered about the total, Romario apparently scored over a thousand goals but used pre season friendlies and skipped a few dozen to get there..
..Not that im saying Pele did that!

mate, in the local paulista league (in brazil there is a short league in the start of all seasons, only teams of the local state are part of it) of 1958, for example, he scored 58 goals in 30 matches. his record was always more than 1 goal per match, and lots of times it got very close to two goals. for santos, overall, he scored 1091 goals in 1115 matches, which means 57 goals a season, and he played around 58 games a season - i can tell you that it makes perfect sense, there were around 30 matches of the local league plus 30 matches of the national league plus the south american cup, which was from 3 up to around 10 games. it makes complete sense.
yes, there are some rubbish friendlies and things like that which he counts, but you can surely bet that it was more than 1000 official goals in the 21 years he played as a professional footballer. for the national team, he scored 95 goals in 115 caps. not bad, heh?
