Been watching the men being rescued, despite all the inevitable jokes surrounding the whole thing, this has been a truly heart-rending story.
So must admit to feeling a bit emotional watching them come to the surface to be re-united with their families.

Agreed. My kids' school did prayers and lit candles for them. It seems to have really struck a chord with so many people. When the first guy out hugged his sobbing son I have to admit (having 2 kids around that age) it hit me right in the heart.
Hope and pray nothing goes wrong and they all get out alive and well.

Watched nearly all of it yesterday.
Can't believe the last rescuer (nnot miner) to leave the mine left the lights on!

to be honest i can't believe the coverage its getting. Sky news had none stop coverage of it, bbc the same with the shit itv morning show 'popping in and out'.. ..
the only reasoning i can think of is the usual governments interference of the news to distract us from the fact they are currently passing plocies that are fucking us over even more.
and whats even worse is now the guys are out it will disappear from the news and nothing will be done to highlight the lack of compensation they will recieve from teh mining company, the fact they're pay will be stopped for the time they were down there and the president having done his media 'i love "miners" act' will fcuk off and leave them to rot.
there really are better things to be using news coverage for.

Come on 12th

This is probably the biggest news story of the year if not one of the biggest of the decade, and to top that it's a "feel good story"
The fact that it was covered in full by just about every news broadcaster on the planet, is testament to that.
I thought the coverage was excellent and justified.
As for the political connotations, I think they should be left to one side in situations like this. My hat goes off to the Chilean president who greeted every single miner and indeed rescuer as they came to the surface.
And I don't agree with your cynicism regarding them being left to rot.

The difference being if she was in this situation she'd leave them down there and fill the hole in

Just watching the news footage of those poor bastards getting rescued... Great to see the smiles back on their grubby little faces and faint glimmers of hope in their otherwise impoverished, shit and mundane lives.... I still hope Everton beat them on Sunday though!

Its nice to see the politicians all smiling and happy saying what a great job the miners (firefighters, police, ambulance nhs staff teachers) do. Until they ask for a pay rise and safer working conditions then they are evil bastards.
