Car Insurance for teenagers

Post by Eboue-Why? »

My boy is 17 next year and keeps reminding me that he could be driving in less than 12 months time! Just out of curiosity, I went on one of the comparison sites and put his details in to get an idea of how much the insurance could be, based on a 4 grand VW.

Cheapest was.................................£6600!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thought there must have been a mistake but nope, it didn't think he was gonna be driving a 911 or Aston Martin.
How the hell can kids afford to drive?

The prices for youngsters reflect the risk. Which is driven up by the boy racers. Excuse the pun.

The cost comes tumbling down for low powered cars.

If he were to pass the advanced drivers test, he would get a nice discount.

As a side issue, ALL our insurance premiums are affected by the *word censored* who drive around with no insurance whatsoever. And the scum who do car thefts and malicious damage. *word censored*.

to be fair, when i passed (january 25th 2005) i then went on to get a speeding ticket (feburary 20th 2005) and total my first car (march 4th 2005)... since then, i've calmed down and my insurance reflects this and now, on occasion (i.e. in the dry) i drive....

because big inheritance with zero responsibility is AWESOME!

by the way, i'm 23, not a teenager, it was hard enough getting insurance on that thing.

I started driving around August few months ago, bought a Car with the money I saved up, 53 plate Honda Civic, 1.6 Vtec 8)

Went to check how much the insurance would be...£4000

But my dad has 6 years no claims bonus so he added me as a second driver on a policy he made.

Price dropped to £1700 :o :o :o

I'm 19 btw

While arsehole tossbag boy racers exist car insurance is always gonna hurt.

I fucking hate boy racers. Dublin is bollock full of them. :banghead:

A cousin of mine was killed back in the 80's by this little toerag in a souped up Fiat 127. A fucking 127! The fuckwad had a huge engine mounted in the bastard and hit my cousin's car side on at a junction at about 90mph. The brackets in cunto's car sheared and the engine block went straight through the side door killing my cousin instantly.

Toerag broke his legs I think and only got suspended for (I think) 2 years and fined. No jail, not even community service or probation.

I never really knew my cousin well as I'd only moved to Oireland from Australia but I don't think my aunt and uncle ever got over losing him. It's terrible to see how such a loss can ruin decent people's lives like that. And all because some 18 year old bollocks thought he was a fucking racing driver.
