Do you have to be a special sort of person to be a cabbie

Just been reading in the paper about that Chris Halliwell taxi driver who has been charged by the police for the murder of Sian O'Callaghan and there was also that derrick bird bloke who went around just shooting people at will

It must be a very lonely and Solitude lifestyle being a cabbie, sitting on the rank for hours just waiting for a fare and with only a copy of the sun and a flask for company

Do these guys have special checks, just like teachers and social workers, because at the end of day when we get in to the back of the cab, we don't know what pyscho is driving us to our destination and that's if we get there -

and talking from experience i had one right nutter, taxing me away from Wimbledon dog track one night,

Anyone in a customer services job will get frustrated by insults.

People who work shifts are extra tired.

People who work on their own get lonely.

Combine all of these and it can boil over into violence.

Well the Public Carriage Office is the old bill.

They do a million checks on the London black cab drivers so to within half a perecent these guys are all pretty safe.

**** may be the exception though.

And the one that did all them rapes a few years ago.

I don't know much about the regional cabs around the UK but I'm pretty sure they should all be linked to the PCO in some way.

Not anymore, its run by TFL, used to be the Met.

The only check they have is a CRB which isn't even the highest one that teachers and care workers have to work with kids.

Having said that, it is the best cab service in the world, allegedly

Cabbies like ****, tend to make me think otherwise

Question: Do have to be a special person to invite people into your cab, without a background check, and feel comfortable riding them around? How many taxi drivers have been killed by giving psycos a ride? :? 8)

They most certainly check to see if you have a criminal record.

Obviously they DONT check to see if im Didlo.
Id be fecked then alright

My husband's a cabbie down here in our part of the world - gloucestershire - which is not really that far from Swindon.

He has to have CRB checks every couple of years.

He's been attacked, we've known others have their takings stolen, beaten up, rumours of a stabbing. He's also had to put up with the pukers, the incontinent ones, and a couple having a quick shag in the back of the cab.

There are nutters in all walks of society. It's not limited to cabbies.

Always use a licensed Hackney cab, never a mini cab. They guy in Swindon was possibly a mini cab driver or private hire - pics of his car showed a plate on the back, but no top sign.
