i bought a few season reviews from monkeymaw (btw i strongly recommend it, he has lots of arsenal videos in great quality and sent some of them over to me for a very fair price) and one thing i still can't understand is why alan smith isn't more thought of as a super legend for arsenal. the ammount of goals the lad scored is impressive and he seemed to do so in a very consistent basis, so why the heck don't i see more of his name in arsenal shirts, profile pictures and the likes of that??? am i wrong to think that him and wrighty were almost as important for us, even if in different times?

by the way, another player that impressed me in the 90/91 season review was anders limpar. what a player!! :barscarf: :barscarf: :barscarf:

Smudger is one of our most underated players. We the fans that saw him in his prime know just how good he was but he never flirted with media or knocked the arse off a page 3 girl. He was quiet and private off the pitch. So he never got much fame (or infamy) and then huge personality Wrighty arrived and grabbed all the attention and he was flash and loud (and brilliant too) and people just seem to associate that time with Wrighty more than Smudger.

Limpar was the Bergkamp of that team. Truly gifted player. And he smacked Cuntslop McClair a nice one in the "battle" ( ) of Old Shatford too! Legend. 8)

Smith is my favourite player (although I've never seen him play in the flesh being too young and all that). He may be a bit of a annoying git as a pundit but the goals he scored make him an Arsenal legend in my eyes!

Sorry I thought this was another Arsene Wenger's potential signings thread!

Used to enjoy watching him play - as is said above, very subtle underrated, and never moaned despite Wrighty changing the direction of not only his role in the team but perhaps his whole career!!

Arsenal 1-0 Parma nil, what a moment - what a goal as well!

dont mind listining to him, talks sense without resorting to the usual media hype. good luck to him.

Smith was a good no nonsense player but I think he went off the boil a bit when Wright arrived, and in a recent interview he said that he never really gelled with Wright on the pitch.
But to be fair to Smith he struggled with injuries in his last few seasons with us.

Smithy was a real team player, who did the hard graft without being flamboyant or attention seeking in his play, celebrations or general demenour.

From memory he was golden boot winer twice in three seasons and his goals and team work were key parts of the title wins in 89 and 91. (Goal and assist to Micky T at Anfield 89) Not to mention the cup winners cup winning goal.

Huge contrast to the loud mouthy Wrighty, who you couldn't help but love for his enthusiasm and ability to wind up the opposition fans and players alike.

Smith was sacrificed to target man status to make Wright the key figure up front and understandably his goal return dropped as he became provider rather than goal taker.

A few years ago absolutely, but you're in denial if you think FIFA isn't the better product right now.
