Went to see Essex play Middlesex on Saturday in the 20 20 competition. Sun was shining, people with cool boxes bringing beers to you, loads of banter with the fielders and the other fans. I got well pissed and i can honestly say i enjoyed it more than my last couple of times at the Grove it was a brilliant evening and everything that football should be.
Well recomended if any of you get the chance

Always been on my "things to do list" to go to a test match and sit and get pissed, preferably for the full 5 days.

was there too, shame it was a shit game at least till napes came in at got it moving... where did u sit? shame they didnt announce the 6 run penalty so the fans, even though i wasnt in much of a state to take notice, know whats going on.
go to a day nighter on a friday for an even better (at least more pissed) atmosphere at 'fortress' chelmsford if ur buying drinks in the ground i recommend the thatchers gold, is much better than the watered down oranjeboom.
still 2020 not my cup of tea as the skills for proper cricket are ruined, much prefer the boring as hell 4/5 dayers where you can get slowly smashed over the course of the day. test match perfect, just hope ur not sitting amongst a bunch of old boys, if ur more of a barmy army type as they dont like it!

I actually stood as all the non allocated seats had gone. Was standing opposite the main stand was a good view. I didnt know about the 6 run penalty either until i got home and read it. Oranjeboom was alright and im no beer coniseur it got me pissed so was good enough for me. Would like to get to another game before the end of the season. Napier won it for Essex in the end. Was a good day all round

Been to a couple of 20/20's this season, last one was last night, saw the mighty Hampshire Royals beat Essex 2011, rain affected game but won on the D/L.
Got a little hammered and inbetween the showers we got our own game going using stacked plastic pint cups and our legs as the bat, I took 5 wickets in one over which included a cb
We are top of the south group and have won our last 10 at home (Arsenal take note, thats what you call a fortress

).
I play league cricket on Saturdays and play in a 20/20 league on Wednesdays but it has has to get a few more teams as it is only one game a month, good fun though, also do the indoor cricket in the winter, very hectic game........honestly

classic marcangels!!
me and my m8s were also stood opposite the pavilion then some bloke tipped us the wink that there were 6 spare seats all together near him so we managed to sit down for the essex innings. tbh the stewards didnt give a s*it.
looking grim 2020 wise for us now though! next 2 home games are friday nights i think.
left foot legend, do you play in the SNEL? indoor cricket, facks the knees

Spent many a sunday afternoon in my youth at Chelmsford watching Essex in 40 over games. And even then our noisiness was frowned upon by the members. Just be very choosy about where you sit next time.
The only 20 20 I've been to was seeing Northampton in MK (Campbell Park). Nice venue, nice evening, good game. But as someone who does actually like test cricket it wasn't really for me. I know enough about cricket not to need to have music blaring out to tell me it's a 6 or a wickets been taken....

just noticed this thread.
im an armchair cricket fan during the ashes when i pretend to be english with my aussie mates, but actually going to watch it.
Flash, oh dear oh dear.
Spend 40 quid on chisora fury ticket, sneak in a few brews, and then sneak down to the pricey seats (when fighters coming into the ring, security low then), and enjoy the fight with your drink. OR pay and bring your drink to ringside, all enlish venues now seem to have changed there rules for boxing and drink are allowed to be brought to seats.
Either way, the women at the boxing alone outscore feckin cricket by a mile. There are single ones too
And guarenteed a few characters too. If its a big london fight, all the firm turn up. ANd it hillarious hearing them singing chants across a venue. It hardly ever gets nasty either, pure banter, unless of course someone cant take their drink.
And then there is the actual boxing.
Flash get down to the york hall for a prizefighter event. Not the cream of the crop as far as boxing talent goes, but a great night out, and isnt stupidly expensive.
Cricket

Apart from bringing in your own booze i dont see the appeal.
