A really good domestic show in Liverpool this weekend on sky sports one. Ricky Burns is defending his super feather weight world title against Nicky Cook. Burns is a really good boxer and a tough nut too, but a great jab, nicky cook coming back after a couple of years out. Could be a tear up, Cooks last chance, but think Burns if a class above, and if he continues the way he’s gone could be heading for a unification bout. Burns KO rounds 10-12

The main event on the telly will probably be Kevin Mitchell vs John Murray at lightweight with the winner getting a crack at the world title, many will know Mitchell as the one who got ko’d at upton park to Australian Katsidis last year. Apparently his life was in turmoil, split up with his misses and in loads of gambling/drinking debts. After loss went on a few months bender, but seems to have sorted his life out, although his house was raided on a drugs bust, nothing found though. But apparently frank warren has got him on the straight and narrow. But his comeback fight is against and undefeated manc John Murray who has a 31-0 record, and is a real pressure fighter with power, but he also has quick hands and feet, Mitchell has been out a long time so you really question whether he is fit and prepared enough, most of the bookies going murray, but if Mitchell is prepared he is a class operator and has the beating of murray, he beat bredis precott with the jab and i think he’ll do the same again. Murray has the power to ko Mitchell but i think Mitchell will win on points or late ko.

For me though Tony Bellew VS Ovil McKenzie at light heavyweight is the big fight of the night, Their fist fight was just unbelievable, Bellew down twice with two massive punches you’d think no one would get up from (one literally threw him back across the ring,ill try get a link) and came back and ko’d ovil. Bellew is a mouthy scouser with real attitude, but back it up every time, he's great at hyping himself and his fights up, which has really made me warm to him. I think this could be the fight of the night. And think Bellew will be more defensive, but still ko him between 8-10.

Frankie Gavin is also fighting ex-Sheffield utd player Curtis Woodhouse, this has been hyped a bit too, Gavin was awful on the groves/degale undercard and blamed a cold, if he’s got his preparation rite Gavin should have the speed and combo’s to win, on points.

Could be a really good night of boxing, and not ppv too.

Great matchups from the look of things, and a bill much more interesting than Haye vs Harriosn.

Like Bren I think Burns wins, just a bit too skillful and fresh for Cook. Round nine KO is my guess.

Mitchell has bundles more skill than Murray, who has always struck me as a basic, but well conditioned fighter. But I think Murray wins, that Mitchell going off the straight and narrow will count against him and Murray's basic strength and fitness will see him to a hard fought points win.

Bellew vs McKenzie was a wild fight, and I think Bellew wins again by late T.K.O.

Frankie Gavin to deal comfortably with Curtis Woodhouse in a wide points win over Curtis Woodhouse.

good advice, i think i better keep my stakes small, although i rate bren up there with other greats like Gutteridge, Carpenter, Watt and Dickie Davies

Although you've given me the idea for an acululator now. To be honest I rarely bet on boxing due to the unpredictable nature of the sport, but. Im gunna stick one on myself now. Will let you know what odds i get. Mitchell is the worry in that bet, but I think at his best he's too classy for murray, question is will he be at his best?

Missed Frankie Gavin fight but sounded good.

Bellew did enough to beat McKenzie but it was an average fight.

Feel for Nicky Cook, injury looked painful.

Mitchell showed his class to beat Murray, against my prediction. Murray started very strongly but Mitchell had trained properly this time, unlike for the Katsidis fight.
Mitchell punches harder than I thought.

highlight of the night has to be Mitchell v Murray fight



Belleu fight was awful and dull, Burns fight was a virtual no contest with Cooke fucking up his back and sky showed brief highlights of Gavin, and he wasn't that impressive and Barry McGuigan ripped into him about his diet and training

shame the odds were poor, could of been a nice accumulator

Been busy so didnt get to watch any of it till tonight, and only watched mitchell murray, gunna watch the rest tomorrow. It was a great fight, mitchell wasnt at his best and clearly much more cautious. Was impressed with his punch resistance after such a long time out and the rumours of a bad training camp were put to rest. Murray got it totally wrong with the tactics, he needed to stand off more than usual, but it was the same old bulldozer in and he got picked off. But still a prospect for sure.

Although i havent watched not surprised Bellew went defensive after the punches he took in first fight but by all means outclasses him, Cleverly next maybe?

Burns fight is one im surprised by, but by all acounts a bit of a freak injury. Burn needed a test so need another fight asap.

But again i heard Gavin was a massive let down.

Glad for mitchell hopefully this is a new start for him.

After watching really feel sorry for Cook he shouldnt be risking serious back injury though, and needs to give it up. Had a great career and should go head held high.

Bellew didnt live up to pre fight hype, but though he was clinical in his style, and clearly didnt want to risk being hit by an ovil bomb, should have gone for it a bit more in the later rounds though.

Frankie Gavin on the highlight i saw was poor, something isnt rite in his camp at all, clearly struggling to make weight, and seems to have lost his sharpness. Frank Warren needs to take a close look at whats going on in his private life.
