Pictures of a semi-naked Scarlett Johansson have been posted on the internet amid claims they were taken illegally from her mobile phone.

One photo shows the 26-year-old Hollywood star topless while the other sees her holding a towel and looking into a mirror where her naked rear reflection can be clearly seen.

The FBI is looking into the matter.

"The FBI is investigating the person or groups responsible for a series of computer intrusions involving high-profile figures," said an FBI spokeswoman in Los Angeles.

The actress has been voted one of the world's most beautiful women

She did not say exactly through what means the celebrity might have been hacked.

"What traditionally was called computer intrusion can nowadays mean anything from ... compromise of a desktop, a laptop, an iPad, a phone or really any device with which one can access personal information via the internet."

Actor Hugh Jackman was sympathetic to his fellow actor's plight.

"I think it's disgusting," he told Sky News. "I think anybody having their private life hacked into is not great but, you know, one of my heroes in life is a man called Socrates who lived 2,000 years ago.

"I always remember a quote from him 'never say privately what you wouldn't say publicly' – it’s probably pretty good advice."

Ms Johansson is not the first famous person to suffer such intrusion.

Vanessa Hudgens and Jessica Alba have also suffered the embarrassment of intrusive photos appearing on the web.
