Just seen him with his new band at Southport Theatre and he was brilliant. There were about 150 people there and him and the band put on a great show. If you like the boomtown rats go and see him as he does the popular ones. Even if you're not too familiar with his work it a great show.I was really impressed with how good a performer he is and he looked like he really was enjoying it and had good banter with the crowd. Just don't call him Bobbie

I also heard that he was involved in the 9/11 attacks. I have no actual evidence, but he's certainly criticised the US in the past, so I believe it's all true

top bloke in my opinion and the Rats stuff still holds up really well.

Off to see From The Jam on Sat 24th in Ipswich (giving up Bolton at home for this).

Seen them loads of times and they are absolutely brilliant.

I remember when they knocked olj and jt off the number one spot with "rat trap". We used to listen in canteen at school on our transistor radios on a monday lunchtime to hear the new charts. A huge cheer went up from all the lads who were into "real music" whether it was rock or punk.
It was the relief of that nauseating pop shite finally getting dumped. And in a way set the chart scene for the next few years, with bands like the jam, buzzcocks and squeeze etc all dominating the charts.

If only something could come along now and do the same to the crap boy/girl band, dance, dj and rap fucking drivelous moronic shite that has destroyed the art of songwriting and musicianship.

I saw the Boomtown Rats at Queen Mary College in 1984,(well it was just before the Band Aid single came out),and I remember Geldolf shouting to the crowd,"If you don't buy our next single we are fucked."

The guy's a massive wanker IMO. Saw Midge Ure arranging Band Aid and then completely took over the thing. In that charity event he saw the way to make himself a global hero. And it worked............

Agree, whilst the Boomtown Rats may have been a semi decent band, the mans a grade A attention seeking *word censored* and his daughter aint too pretty either.

I agree Geldolf took all the credit,and never gave Midge Ure any.
P.S. Saw the Rich Kids too,at The Benn Memorial Hall,Rugby,in about 1976/77.
What a line up:-
Midge Ure,(Ultravox),Glen Matlock,(The Sex Pistols),Stuart Adamson,(Big Country),and I can't remember thr drummer,but I think that he went on to better things as well.

I also think that Midge Ure was the main writer of "Do they know it's Christmas.",and the one who called in most of the favours to get the musicians to play on it.
