Just been out walking the dog, happily chatting on my mobile and I finished the call and thought 'How the hell does that work?' It's probably an age thing but I really don't understand how you can speak into a bit of plastic and half a second later someone else can hear you. So here's the challenge, explain in simple English how the fook it happens :hmmthink:

Microwaves.

Marvelous invention.

Make a phone call. Or cook a whole chicken in ten minutes. Brilliant. :D

I can explain how a jet engine works, as that's more my field of expertise - but other than that, when it comes to technology, I'm clueless (especially with invisible stuff :?)

It's all to do with that giant piece of invisible string that connects all phones together. We can't see them, but they are there.

it takes the sound waves / vibration your voice box makes and then represents that with a radio wave which the phone sends to the nearest mobile phone mast (a radio antenna of sorts) it will then get converted from a radio wave to an electrical current and sent over copper wires or converted into light / photons and sent over optical cables

it will then travel all the way to the nearest antenna to your friend using the underground cables

then it will be converted into a radio signal and sent to your mates phone in a similar way a radio works.

finally your mates phone coverts it back to a sound wave (the little speaker in the phone mimics the vibrations made by your voice-box)

It's basically a C.B radio with batteries

:)
