San Siro - Is it worth it?

Post by ElliotGooner »

I found the Camp Nou last season one of the best away days Ive been on even if the police were fucking nutters and the seats up in the gods, the view wasn't as bad as expected and the fanzone was a quality laugh and cant wait for another big European away day.

Do any gooners who have been to the San Siro over the years recommend it as an way day i.e. worth the £500+ for flights, drink and accomodation?

The few spud mates I have said it was a shocker and the net in front of the away fans blocked most of the pitch :s

Cheers

Definitely not as friendly as Barcelona, but you probably won't get pick-pocketed.
More difficult to get a drink, but Duomo Square is a right laugh during the day.
If we get a good result, it will all be worth it. IMO it is THE iconic stadium to visit in world football.

Go for it. :barscarf:

The San Siro is a must visit! Milan itself is a shithole in my opinion, but to stand there in the stadium is amazing. It's even better if you're there when we win 1-5!! 8)

Word of warning though, stand 'underneath' the upper tier, because the home fans above throw bags of piss down on away fans and the old bill just let them do it.
Cover up any colours when leaving the ground as it can be hairier than an Italian girls armpit!! :barscarf:

I went to the AC game the other year and Milan itself and the authorities were friendly enough. More so than visits to other Italian cities I've had in recent years. I didn't make it to the Inter game a few years before, but my understanding is the AC fans are differently behaved to their rivals so there was no trouble or agg from the fans.
We ended up sitting in home seats and there was no agg even when we jumped up when arsenal scored and at the final whistle.
Great pi$$ up and party in the main square on the afternoon of the game and the police left everyone to it.
I can't say visits to Rome and Turin in previous years were as much fun with the old bill and locals.
Not a lot to do in Milan after the game though. Get a hotel with a bar .... That stays open late. The Hilton bar was still going when we called it a day quite late. If you get out there.... Enjoy !

The way our club is going, and the way the world is going, who knows when you might get another Arsenal v AC Milan in the San Siro.

Wouldn't be surprised if we're in Europa before you know it, and with Juventus building a new stadium and Olimpico's upgrades, maybe the Milan clubs will start thinking of significant "updates" or a move one day.

All I'm saying is it might be a good chance to take up while it's still available!!

If I could go I would absolutely jump at the chance. It's an amazing stadium and well worth the trip especially as we are likely to pull something off.

You'll kick yourself if you don't go.

If you have the chance to go then do so and decide for yourself. You may regret it in the future if you dont :barscarf:

I went to the "5-1 in the San Siro" in November 2003. Amazing night.

I recall it was a bit difficult to get a beer during the day and we got a taxi to one bar recommended to us, only to get there and find out it was closed due to English fans being in Milan!

Arsenal away day at one of the most pretigious grounds in Europe - surely if you haven't already been and you got the money it's a no brainer?

Went to 0-2 in the San Siro. :barscarf: :barscarf: :barscarf:
Probably the best European Away I've ever done. To see the San Siro up close takes your breath away.

Looking at going myself but will be going out on my own, has anyone ever gone through the club and booked their flights through them and if so is it worth it/what is it like?

If any option that is cheaper and avoids me forking out over the odds prices to Arsenal that they will no doubt charge for travel would be a much better idea!

Cheers for the info!

I traveled with the Arsenal Official Travel to Barcelona last season. Their chartered flight was the only flight leaving the city after the match- we had the airport to ourselves and we had coach transport from airport to fanzone and stadium. We got to the city around 11am and staff were helpful enough but the prices they charge are extortionate!

Cheers mate, looked at easyjet and ryanair but no flights coming back after the game so would have to stay and works out that expensive with accomodation anyway so might just have to give it a go then.

Only been once with the travel club. As with all their trips both here & in Europe it's stupidly overpriced nine times out of ten. Plus I normally prefer to stay longer than just the day trip.

That said, the trip I did with them (Porto a few years back) was pretty well organised. You just pay your money & then don't really have to worry about anything, it's all taken care of for ya...
