Season Ticket holders - Europa League 2012/13

Season Ticket holders - Europa League 2012/13

Post by MK Gould »

First of all, the intention of this thread isn't to start yet another whinge about Wenger and the lack of ambition at the club etc etc. Think there are already a few on that subject.....

The fact is though that there is obviously a very real possibility/probability that we will be playing in the Europa League next season and it is a competition - at least at the Group Stage - that is rightly considered as Europe's equivalent of the Carling Cup.

But.....we are unlikely to be paying Carling Cup prices for these matches and although the stadium may well be half full the season ticket holders will be forced to pay for it regardless!

The club won't listen to an individual, so I think now is the time for supporters groups to voice their concerns.

My opinion is that, should we qualify for it, Europa League group matches (I've no problem with the knock out stage) should be excluded from the season ticket - and that the club should consider pricing such matches at Carling Cup levels e.g. £10 for adults in the lower tier, £20 in the upper.

Views???

Does anyone know whether Red Action, AISA etc have already raised these concerns with the club????

that time is now isn't it ? - especially if you want to put pressure on the club to perform now.

if you wait until May, the club can argue that they need the revenue to rebuild for 2013...whereas pressure now and the threat of lost match day ticket revenue can motivate the board to spend now.

no offence SWL, but it seems to me that these AISA/BSM chaps are pretty piss poor at organisation. :?

Our renewal forms will be sent out in May/June so its probably now that we start pressuring the club.

I read in the small print last year that the club changed the wording to

includes 7 cup games including FA Cup, Champions League/Europa Cup.

Just make the season ticket league games only.Giving ST holders the option to buy their seat for cup games if they want to.Instead of now when you have no choice you have to pay for 7 games whatever. But thats too simple for the club

I guarantee you Europa League games will be included next season irrespective of whatever protest is raised. The club simply won't risk having 20k in the ground when they can fleece the season ticket holders. They will also want guaranteed money in the bank and charging carling cup prices simply isn't going to happen. I will enjoy telling the club to shove their offer of a season ticket in the summer as I'm around 4400 on the list as giving up my silver woukd be incredibly stupid.

One thing Arsenal PLC definitely isn't is stupid.....

Previous seasons have been different as at time of renewal there has always been the possibility of CL football even if via the play off.

This might be the first season when we are asked to renew knowing that we are in the Europa League. Having the FA Cup as part of the ST has always been unpopular, but the club will know that having the Europa League on there as well may be the final straw.

I for one will have to seriously consider not renewing if 7 of the games on there are ones that i probably wouldn't have bought out of choice - certainly not at full price!

Removing the Europa League group games - and reducing the price to Carling Cup levels - may actually increase revenues.....!

I think that the time for the supporters groups to be holding such discussions is now - not as a threat regarding January signings but as a serious concern!

Not sure how much confidence I have though. Spurs supporters groups successfully challenged the price they were being charged for Inter away last season - which I'm sure is why we're only paying £25 for Milan in a few weeks time...... And yet we paid £70 for Barca and £65 for Marseille. Any protests at that?

Maybe this is a chance for the various supporters groups to unite and prove they have teeth.....!

My view is......

stop letting Gazidis and the goons keep mugging you off every Summer, charging you higher prices for a lower quality product whilst telling lie after lie about how we're going to be busy in the transfer window.

How about the radical step of not renewing and letting the weasle-faced runt worry about having to come up with some proposals of his own as to how to win back support, address ticket prices and other fan concerns.

The decision to not renew is a tough one, especially for someone like me who gave a ST up when we were rebuilding Highbury and had to wait for years to get one back when we moved to the Grove.

So, for good or for bad, I wouldn't be willing to give up the ST as a protest - and I'm not sure I even agree with the idea of not attending as a way of protest. I'd have more sympathy with people attending matches but refusing to spend anything on merchandise. Or banners, chants etc aimed at the board. But refusing to watch Arsenal play.....? No.

But the Europa League issue is different. Not sure I could justify spending £1,700 on my 3 ST's when it would only be the Premier League games that held any interest..... i.e. £90 per game for the 3 of us, for something that currently averages £65.

And imagine how difficult it would be to sell games on (the only way I have of affording to buy ST's in the first place!) for the Europa League. I'd end up having to only sell on Premier League games, so even more of the games we went to would be FA Cup and EL......!

Its absolutely guaranteed the club will include Europa tickets in the ST next season. Think about it, we will already lose a minimum £20m from CL qualification. There is simply no way on earth the club will lose more money through ST willingly.
Last year without player sales I think we would have made a small loss wouldn't we? So without CL qualification and property sales next season, we are fucked! It could mean player sales become necessary, even if they don't want to leave!
Seriously folks, we are in such a dodgy position this year.

Of course they will. They aren't going to charge season ticket holders top dollar and let everyone else in for a tenner. The only reason we get cheap prices for Carling Cup games is because they aren't included in the season ticket.
