Just a brief post to say thanks to the regulars that contacted me to check I was ok during my recent absence. I'm fine. Just went through a bad spell there for a couple of weeks after one of my oldest and closest friends sadly passed away suddenly a couple days before Xmas. He was only 39.

I just wasn't in the right place to deal with all the petty whining and bitching that has ruined this forum of late.

My mate Alski was a die hard Gooner and a great bloke but his life was ruined by alcoholism - he lost his job, his family even his home. He literally drank himself to death.

I'll miss him forever but I feel he is in a better place now and if any of you are religious please say a prayer for my mate Alski. A top top bloke that died way too fucking young.

Anyway, thanks for the concern. It's good to see we still have a few decent genuine people on here.

Glad you're alright mate. My thoughts are with his family and his friends like yourself. Theres never a good time to lose someone of course, but its heartbreaking when it happens over the "festive" period and you were probably right to take a break from this place to deal with it.

I'm sure your mates in a better place now and hopefully all those he has left behind are coping as well as can be expected. You know theres always people on here who you can contact if for any reason you feel especially down about it one day and just want to write your thoughts down without feeling as if you're burdening those close to you. A few days ago a bloke who helped me out a lot (with match tickets, organising trains/ transport and with advice and support when I got arrested a couple of seasons ago) took his own life in Sunderland through depression and everyone who knew him just wishes he'd said something, its made me more aware than ever that people need to know they can always talk about things if they need to so if you ever feel down, dont hesitate to PM. Ah, cheers man. I appreciate the kind thoughts and I'm sorry to hear about your mate.

You know, I'm pretty good with it all now. My wonderful wife and kids got me through it and then my mates and I had a serious one dayer on the batter and just got rat arsed and talked about all the funny shit Alski got up to years ago and it was very cathartic. We cried and laughed in equal measure - the other patrons of that pub must have thought we were all fucked in the head!

But you know something like this just confirms how fragile life can be and makes me think we should live every day like it's our last. I go home in the evenings and spend time with my wife and kids and thank God I have them.

that's very sad db, thoughts with your mate's family and friends. i know what seeing a good friend waste his life away is like, it's almost as much suffering for those around the person than for the person itself.

hope you're feeling a bit better anyway. it's a bad start to the new year but hopefully the table will turn and things will be great from now on for you, your friends and your family mate. may your friend RIP.

Sorry to hear about this sad news mate.... My thoughts are with his family and friends.. All the best to you.

Always seems to happen around this time of year. I had a mate a few years ago dropped dead waiting in the queue in a takeaway, on boxing night.
Turned out he had gone undiagnosed with chronic heart disease, despite having been to his GP complaining of chest pains.
