Hi am over in Dublin April 3-5 ( daughter plays for Arsenal over there for tournament ) got any tips pubs hot places to go etc ? cheers Dubliners , am staying north side of city not too far from park, reliant on public transport & limited budget at moment ...

Avoid Temple Bar if you are on a budget, mate. It's tourist prices. In general the North side is cheaper than the South side. Most pubs are very welcoming and good craic.

Be extra vigilant if in Abbey St after dark - it's full of junkies and pickpockets as there's a methadone clinic there. But there are some good pubs in that area - The Church on Jervis st (just round corner from Jervis st LUAS (tram) stop on LUAS Red Line and Smyths in Abbey St itself. Most barmen and doormen will tell you what clubs/pubs are currently "hot".

Avoid Sheriff Street and Summer Hill at all costs!

My advice would be not to go, but if you have to then wear a donkey jacket over a brown suit and ask everyone you meet if they would like their drive tarmacing, you'll fit in like a local. Also helps if you smell of piss and potatoes

You could also get a horse and cart ride back into the city, which the kids should enjoy.

Maddog just noticed your dates its midweek wouldnt normally promote Temple Bar as DB10 said its a bit of a rip-off for us Dubs anyway! But Midweek it will be the only decent place to go for live music and Craic, Most pints there are between 5-6 Euro i recommend either the Auld Dubliner or Gogartys next door I used to be Doorman in some of the pubs/clubs in the area, As DB10 stated be wary of Junkies/pickpockets as they infest the place day and night in the City Centre, Apart from that you should have a great time, wheres the Tournament being played mate?

Since the recession kicked in Dublin is not the party city it once was, especially mid-week where your choices of late night drinking are well reduced these day's. Temple Bar is well touristy and if you are looking for diddly Di music and yanks wearing daft Shamrocks hats, the main stream pubs there will tick those boxes. Ones i would recommend are The Porter House (Essex Street, end of Temple Bar) Brew their own beers and decent DJ . Mulligans in Stoneybatter D7, this one on the north side and a really good Gastro Pub who also think outside the normal beer box. Owned by a serious Gooner to boot. If you are looking for an excellent traditional Dublin pub without the tourist hordes, Smyth's on Queen Street is right up there. If after that you want up up the buzz ante a bit, cross the road to The Dice bar. Used to be owned by Huey from Fun Loving Criminals and always has a wicked eclectic DJ. Gets a bit loud though. On the way back (or to) Sín é bar on the Quays beside Temple Bar has it's moments. If you are sticking to the Temple Bar Area, try The Mercantile on Dame Street (ASC Dublin's base) for late night or alternatively The Work mans Club beside The Clarence Hotel (owned by U2.) If you like your music loud, heavy and sweaty underground pub feel, try The Mezz in Temple Bar. Might even fall over you if you frequent any of the above Have a good one mate

Couldn't have put it better myself - there are parts of Afghanistan that are safer than north side of Dublin
