I Pad Advice

Not sure if this is the right place for this thread (given that I rarely frequent this section of the forum  ) but am seeking some advice/info from any techno guys that might be out there if possible ? I have an ipad 2 and it is a great piece of gear but am unsure if these two things are compatible with ipads -

1. I would record a fair amount of programmes on sky (esp during nfl season) onto my dvd's and am wondering if it is possible to transfer theses programmes onto my ipad or if there are compatibility issue's ? I have used DVD FAB 8 to convert dvd movies onto my ipad but it doesnt seem to have worked when I tried to do the same with my recorded dvd's (although I did only try it once). Do I need different software to make this work or is it even possible to do at all ?

2. Over the last few years I have been heavily involved in my local club (was secretary and am now treasurer) so do quite a bit of work on microsoft word and microsoft excel files. I know that I can (and have) email them to my ipad but I cannot edit them that way so is pointless really. I think I heard somewhere that it is possible to use a camera connection for the ipad to hook a usb memory stick to it but I could be wrong on that ? :? :? If that can be done then will the ipad allow me to open and view the files given that microsoft applications are not on the ipads and if I can open the files from the usb will I be able to edit it ?

Sorry for the complicated questions and would be grateful for any help/advice that anybody can give me 8)

1. how do you get the stuff off your sky box and what format does it come out in? if you can convert it into .mov format you can drag and drop it into itunes and sync to your ipad no problem.

the main problem will be getting the stuff onto your laptop/PC, get a DVD ripping program from download.com for the DVDs, you should be able to get the video file off there (the format doesnt really matter because you can just convert it to the right format

2. in the words of apple, "there's an app for that". something like Quickoffice Pro HD is about £2-3 and you can save them in Office format

shoot me a PM if you want

to be honest apple iOS is a bit of a pain in the arse, I had an iPhone and iPad for years, last year got a Samsung Galaxy S3 and a Galaxy Tab 2 for my birthday a few weeks ago and haven't looked back! so much easier!
