As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.
Feel sorry for you guys. You're exactly in the same predicament we found ourselves in last summer with Judas Van Pervie - having to decide whether to let him run down his contract and join a hated rival on a free in a year or sell him to said rival and get some dosh for him.
At least Lewandowski never wore a shirt that said "BVB's Number One Fan":
I know that I read somewhere in the last couple of days that jovetic claimed to be juve's first choice signing over higuain but this story might change his opinion on that -
If we were/are interested in signing either of these players then this situation really fcuks us about - if juve signed higuain then it is more than likely that moaninho will sign jovetic but if juve signed jovetic then we would virtually have a free run at signing higuain
Of course the more likely scenario is that wenger will use this 3 way battle as an excuse for not signing any of them and state that we couldnt sign either of them cos they went elsewhere
Augie despite what Jovetic said I think that if we bid £25m and then offered him a good contract and told him that he was going to be a huge player for us and that we were looking to add two or three more strong players this summer, he would sign for us and forget about hanging round for Juventus.
The circumstances that have to fall into place for us to sign a player are ridiculous. We have to very tentatively put the feelers out, hope the player kicks up a fuss and demands to leave thereby forcing the selling club's hand and then try and haggle a price 25-40% less than what the player is worth and hope that nobody else comes in for him in the months for which this goes on. Makes you forget that we are still one of the biggest clubs in the most attractive league and probably city in Europe for players - and that we could actually make transfers happen with affirmative action (i.e. identifying a target, making a serious offer promptly and then tying up the contract).
His statement about Italy is just an excuse for us having not signed him. Truth is we never really seem to make any serious endeavours to sign in-demand players. Even if we were willing to pay higher prices and wages we would still be hamstrung by our policy of only going after players who we have a free run at.
Couldnt for the life of me understand how dortmund could even consider selling lewandowski to bayern - yes they are writing off big money here but, and dont let anyone in AFC know this secret, but big clubs do not sell good players to their rivals. Yes it is a novel concept and not in tune with any club interested in raking in the dollars but a club with any kind of positive ambition cannot sell to a rival and still hope to succeed or progress.
This is the stance we needed to take last summer when old ferguscum knocked on our door but back then I stated my belief that we should have been open to selling or former captain to juve even if it was for a fee of 5m-7m less than we could have received from either manc clubs - is this something dortmund would consider ? With all due respect to dortmund, they are a modest club and are probably punching above their level but given their recent history would any of believe that they are incapable of selling gotze and lewandowski and reinvesting in quality players to continue their rise in status ? In recent seasons they have sold kagawa and sahin and use the money to bring in players like reus and they are a better team now than they were prior to those sales
Anyway dortmunds transfer stategy is of no real interest to me......unless we are buying lewandowski or reus or bedner or either of their centre backs - jesus I could go on forever
Hi,
I agree. It is very disappointing to lose a Top player. But it is a disgrace if you lose him and he is going to a direct rival.
I'm very satisfied that BVB stopped this bullshit bingo at least this year for the Bayern move! http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2013 ... ern-munich
now we will see if other clubs are going for him AND if he agress to a possible transfer http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/footba ... chief.html
If not then we will have at least for one season a world class attacking player and Klopp can look for a replacement with no hurry and with a coll down transfer market

Or did he??
Hi,
it is always a shame if you see players doing this to the fans! Lewandowski said BVB is a great club and he always be in his memory.....
So you find very seldom players which really stick to the club.
At the end of the day players come and go, the club stays forever!
With Cavani and Falcao (the latter now off the market) Lewandovski is one of the few clearly world class strikers (touch, movement, workrate, goals etc) and still young.
I'm sure Manure would like him but RvPrick and he probably couldn't start in the same side. Citeh are looking and, if first choice Cavani goes to the Chavs or one of the Arabs' playthings they'll probably go after him, but they're not short of strikers (sulky ones at that!).
So why don't we? We clearly have the money. BvB may prefer 25/30 mil now rather than nothing in a year (when they would lose him to Bayern) and what an amazing statement of intent it would be and would surely attract a couple of other top names (it may even strengthen our bargaining hand if they really want to come to us).
Surely a safer bet than Jovetic or Higuain who clearly don't convince everybody.
Reports in Italy suggest Rafael Benitez is ready to test the resolve of Arsenal and Arsene Wenger, by making an enquiry about the availability of Theo Walcott with a view to bringing the forward to Napoli.
While we can never expect to outbid the likes of city, chelsea, utd, barca or madrid; beating juventus to signing Higuain is exactly the sort of action we should be taking in the transfer market. Time for the fuckers at the top to put the money where their mouth is and beat a rival in the market for once.

Higuian would be my number one target this summer (I think we cannot afford Cavani).
I like his style, experience and most importantly think he will fit in with the way we play.
I will go out on a limb here but if we miss out on Higuain, then we should seriously weigh up a move for Benteke.
There is a risk he could be a one season wonder, but I think his power, movement and work rate are good.
That said I think he is far from the finished article and this could work against us, but I just have a feeling he is worth the gamble.
Lewandowski is obviously a very good player but sadly I am not sure he would come to us, I think he might see us as a sideways move, there are a lot of parallells between us and Dortmund.
Bendtner is feeling pretty good after his successful season at Juve where he earned his first scudetta medal.
Can't wait to see what HUGE club he signs for,but like Denilshit I expect us to either waive the fee or subsidise his first years wages.
Cesc to Man Utd is a rumour that has not gone away amongst certain circles who are In The Know, (supposedly!).
I think to myself, why would Cesc go to Man Utd over a return to Arsenal?
Maybe he really wants to play in a team with RvP again, maybe he knows C Ronaldo will be there too?
I cannot think he has any great love for playing the type of football Moyes has been known for though, and supposedly Cesc's girlfriend is London based.
Which makes me wonder if Chelsea will bid for him too?
Love to inject Cesc with a truth serum to know what he is thinking!
