Gnabry signs new contract

Post by 1989 »

Young forward Serge Gnabry has agreed a new long-term contract with Arsenal Football Club.

The 18-year old Germany youth international has emerged as one of the brightest young talents in the Gunners’ ranks. He scored his first senior goal for the Club in the 2-1 Premier League victory over Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium in September - a week after making his full Premier League debut against Stoke City.

Blessed with raw pace and technical skill, Gnabry signed his first professional contract in the summer of 2012, having impressed for the under-18 side.

He quickly made the step up to senior level during 2012/13, making substitute appearances in the Premier League at Norwich City and the Champions League home match against Schalke. In the process Gnabry became the second youngest Arsenal player - after Jack Wilshere - to appear in both competitions.

This season, Gnabry has also featured in the Capital One Cup - playing the full 120 minutes against West Bromwich Albion, having made his first competitive senior start in the same competition last season in a 7-5 win over Reading.

Arsène Wenger said: “We signed Serge Gnabry because I believe that he will be a great player. He's nearly there now, and competes for a regular place in the team in the Premier League.

"He has technical ability, he has power, he has pace, he has finishing quality and he can give a final ball. He's a powerful offensive player and I believe that he will be a great player for Arsenal Football Club.”

Gnabry said: “Arsenal is a great football club and I’m so happy to be here and sign a new contract. For me, now it’s all about working hard and developing my game.

"I’ve had some good opportunities recently in the first team, which has given me extra confidence, and this will only improve my game. I’m looking forward to giving my best for this club in the years to come.”

Everyone at Arsenal is looking forward to Serge’s continued progression and development with the Club over the coming years.

I've been impressed with what I've seen from this kid so far. Think he'll benefit from a loan spell next year when The Ox is back

From what I've seen I would prefer him to Chamberlain.

Hasnt that been Arsenal's problem for years now.Give a long term contract to someone who may turn out to be good. You would have thought the alarm bells would be ringing by now Denilshit Djourou,Bender,Diaby. He has played less than 10 games. The problem is if he doesnt work out we are stuck with paying his wages because no other fucker will pay them.
Has Sagna been offered anything longer than a one year deal?

True, but i can't see Arsene looking at it that way. Plus if Chambo can show the positive signs he did in his first season then i think it's fair to say Gnabry won't get a look in....big if though

Why?

Gnabry plays mainly wide right but also wide left.
Oxlade-Chamberlain plays in any of the five midfield positions.
With Diaby continually injured, Miyaichi showing little of note, and the regular injuries and suspensions we get, there is every chance that even with a healthy midfield roster both Gnabry and Oxlade-Chamberlain could feature.

Let's just be happy that we've got them both. :barscarf:

great. so now the kid has nothing to prove - just like Theo and OX, who i was a big fan of but has done nothing since his breakout season.

We'll just have to hope that Serge will take the German worker attitude and not the English, Danish, french-african one of bigging it up on social media while warming the bench /medical suite for forty grand a week over the next three years.

Arsenal and Wenger really have learned nothing over the djourou, denilson, diaby, bentdner, etc debacles.

if the kid was a prospect in his last year of his contract they should of offered him a one year extension at the start of the season, if he wasn't on a one year (ie he had at least two), then they should waited until the end of the season and then offered him a one or two year extension based on his progress.

very very poor management of our resources and the kid himself imho.

What if we didn't give him a new contract now, he got better and better, run his previous contract down and left us for fuck all? What we gonna do then? Regret it that's what. It's a catch-22 situation. You just hope that the lad is made of the right stuff.

Poor management is what the mancs have done with Januzaj. They let him go to his last year and after his emergence this season they had to bend over for him and give him 60k a week to stay. 60k a week! That's excluding a 5m signing on bonus. He's only a few months older than Gnabry!

I hope he was either injured or suspended tonight, because that excuse of a Japanese winger who turned up again is about as handy as a glass eye at a keyhole
