BT win rights for champs/Europa league
BT win rights for champs/Europa league
BT have just won the exclusive rights to show both European competitions in the Uk from 2015. From 2015 you will need to be a BT customer to watch European matches or the FA cup legally. They have paid a foxtrotting fortune for it.
Even Sky said they were seriously outbid. The rich clubs just got richer. Can you imagine what the next premier league rights will be will be with Aljazeera wanting a piece of the pie with Keys and Gray fronting it

So no free live football from 2015 and if you have sky another subscription to watch bt can see sky taking a battering over this with broadband and people leaving there sports channel.

I have BT broadband so currently get the sports package free, I guess this may not continue if they need to cover at least some of the cost of the deal.
However, they seriously need to improve the punditry and camera work, which is currently well below par.

Re: BT win rights for champs/Europa league
It's about time someone took on Sky Sports but I wonder whether BT have made a wise investment because there's only 4 English teams in it each year and fans of other clubs aren't going to spend money subscribing to something which won't show their games. If you support a lower-league team or a shit club like the scum, you might as well get Sky because they will occasionally show your team and you can watch the cricket and other sports if you want to but if you're not in the Champions League, why bother? Setanta tried to buy up events from Sky and went bankrupt and as internet streaming is now so wide-spread, is it really worth paying for another sports channel? I would like to see another broadcaster come in and buy the rights for the Premiership from Sky but I'm convinced that there are cosy deals between Sky and the Premier League and that they will always sell them the rights.

Re: BT win rights for champs/Europa league
Obviously needs to be supplemented by major deals for other sports. I think I'm right in saying they have the AVIVA Premiership but BT Sport will need to offer a far more comprehensive sports package when their CL deal starts. They're never going to win in a head-to-head with Sky still having so much live PL football and if they haven't got other sports then it becomes a lot more difficult for viewers (particularly those of non-CL clubs) to justify the extra outlay on top of Sky.
Re: BT win rights for champs/Europa league
total farkin piss take, thank god for live streaming,i hope everybody boycotts BT,no way would i pay for both sky and bt sport, competion is fine but not when it leaves you with no option other than to pay for BT sport on top of sky sports, the government need to look into this, this is one occasion when a monopoly would be a good thing as in the whole kit and caboodle on BT or Sky not bloody both

I'm sure sky will be plugging fibre optic broadband. With speeds approaching 100mb you wont need BT to get a decent HD picture! Streaming will definitely be the way forward.
I used to hate sky when they first started with the prem, one game at highbury they had the shamen on at half time! He was roundly boo'ed by the clock end and stuck two fingers up at us as he left the pitch.
Since then, they have refined and improved the product every season. BT have a lot to do to catch up.

Absolutely obscene amounts of money sloshing around in the game and yet again the only ones who'll be even more out of pocket are the fans.
Fuck em all, I can watch any game I like online for free.

Suggest they hack into their phones to find out exactly how to get the better of them, I've heard some companies see this as a legitimate business tactic

In the middle of a savage recession we are being asked to fork out even more money to see the same product?
Another kick in the teeth for fans.

This was my first thought. Effectively people will be forking out around £30 a month (when you add up a SKY sports package and BT SPORT subscription) to watch PL and European football. That's too much for someone like me with a young family so I will know have to become more familiar with these streaming sites!QuartzGooner wrote:In the middle of a savage recession we are being asked to fork out even more money to see the same product?

All you need is a decent broadband speed and you can watch any sport on thats covered by BT/Sky Sports. I deliberately bought a pc with a 23 in screen this year to watch footy/play poker and have 30mb broadband.Kvltman wrote:This was my first thought. I go to pretty much every home game, and can stream any away game that starts at 3pm through wiziwig. The ads are a pain but once you got rid of them and go full screen its no bother. I subscribe to Sky Sports but the market is very competitive, ring them up and tell them you want to leave and they will offer you a discount. When BT sports was launched, I was given £10 per month off my bill just to retain my custom. You do have to call their bluff mind and say you want to leave.
