The battle for 4th
The battle for 4th
Assuming everything pans out as expected and we are 2nd/3rd, who do gooners want to come 4th.
Maybe we care, maybe we don't. But it has huge significance for MU or da Pool.
First of all you have the reward of £25/£30m for qualifying for CL. That's 5 players on £100k a week. Everything now is sponsorship linked. Apparently every deal is a quarter less without champs league participation.
Don't like either club, but admire their sense of entitlement. Liverpool definitely need it more. Not qualifying could actually finish them. FSG could cut and run in a shot. I'm always telling my pals AV and NF have European cups as well.
MU have more cash but the money they are shelling out is frightning. Between RVP, RF and AdM the are burning it at a massive rate. The guts of a million a week.
I 'd have sacked AW after the 8-2 at OT, but he does get a raw deal sometimes. 4th is not a trophy, but it is a prize. Of the most vulgar sense. Cold hard cash, which let's admit, keeps the show on the road.
Are they both too big too fail???

Ideal situation would be Liverpool, because they've been so bad in Europe that it's very likely they would be unseeded for the playoff. Them getting into Europe and then failing to qualify for the groups would be even funnier than them finishing 5th now.

Re: The battle for 4th
My contention is that the significance of man utd and liverpool is greater for fans from Ireland than it is for us from London, or perhaps even England as a whole.
You guys have it shoved in your face as your surrounded by these guys, the concentration is probably higher and it gets shoved down your throat. The media probably also contributes to this.
I think you can see the evidence on other threads here.
So, they're both *word censored* and if you look at it half glass full, one of them are going to go nuts.

As much as I hate them both, I'd rather it was Manure than the bindippers. The simple reason being, we won't have to put up with all that Wankfield European Glory night bollox every time they play.

Perfectly put, you have it spot on...I would add in that a sizable number of the Man Yoo/Liverpool fans are not really so,they are fair weather pub fans that follow Dublin GAA or Leinster Rugby teams with an equal lack of passion but also an equal level of obnoxious noise.arseofacrow wrote:My contention is that the significance of man utd and liverpool is greater for fans from Ireland than it is for us from London, or perhaps even England as a whole.

If Liverpool get fourth (doubtful now after the referee's performance in Selhurst yesterday) then Manure would continue the impressive freefall post Fergie, if United get fourth then Liverpool would continue the impressive freefall post Suarez..hate both so will delight in either club's failure.
Re: The battle for 4th
I dislike the victims as much as manure and that's even though I have more scouse supporting buddies these days
That being said, I would prefer if they finish in the top 4 at manure's expense - having spent huge (citeeh like) amounts of money last summer, it would rank as an absolute catastrophe if they fail to make top 4
All the talk seems to suggest another manure spending spree this summer and the signing of depay seems to back this up. If this is the case then they are likely to a real challenger next season so would have more of a negative effect on us than if the victims get top 4
Of course I still have confidence that the dutch forehead (van gaal) will prove to be a bad appointment - so far he is showing wenker like intelligence in the transfer market (ie signing players that he doesn't need and ignoring the positions of serious need
) and I still stand by my assertion that he will continue his habit of going into a new club, having a short term positive effect and then cause serious splits inside the club before walking away and leave the shit for someone else to sort out. I suppose you could call him a dutch version of the twitcher

Re: The battle for 4th
Unless my maths has got a bit awry it could actually still be us.
If Manure win their final 2 games (one against us), we need 5 points out of the remaining 9 to finish above them (4 points if we can maintain a goal difference).
That isn't nailed on by any means with us not knowing which Arsenal will turn up.
The key for me is tonight's game against Swansea. Win that and we only need 1 point from the remaining two games.
