Personally I welcome any legislation that allows sex in any marriage. My missus will have a rude awakening tonite. Yeeha!

Without wishing to sound like the oldie that I am, I don't really care if same sex marriage is legalised or not, but I do have an issue with children being adopted by same sex couples and I voted no for that reason even though I knew that the yes vote would win (although I was expecting the vote to be closer ). I have several times raised my concerns at my boys school, that there is a severe imbalance to the gender make up of the teaching staff (only principal is male) because my belief is that kids do need different guidance for different situations, and imo this applies even more so in a family

If I'm honest I also have an issue with a large portion of the younger yes vote - I'm not political tbh but I would generally vote on most elections and referendums, but the vast majority of the younger electorate that decided this referendum wont be seen anywhere near a voting station again anytime soon. We had a decent number of young Irish people who flew back into the country to specifically vote yesterday which I find absolutely insane I'm not belittling the significance of this issue, but there are many other more serious issues that have needed addressing in recent years, but most of the younger population openly state that they cant be arsed to vote - of course they will be the first to whinge and moan about the way that the country has gone down the shitter

I agree Augie that there is a need for a Balanced upbringing - So that as you rightly say kids do indeed need different guidance for different situations - However my work includes working with Children's Services (mainly on taking children into protection - usually from their parents (male AND female) and with fostering....And having witnessed some truly horrendous things - that children have been put through by their hetro parents - I can also see how they would have been / and probably would/will be with the a same sex couple as their guardians ...I guess there will be those Parents who - regardless of whether they are hetro or gay - will either make good parents or not.

As long as a child is loved, cared for, cherished, protected and brought up to live honestly and be respect of others - then whomever or whatever their parents are is not really a problem....though I do take your point about there being times when a son needs his dad and a daughter needs her mum.....

The Catholic Church were against gay marriage on the basis that they'd been fucking boys for centuries and never felt the need to marry.

Agreed. I have to be honest and say I personally find male homosexuality quite repugnant (sorry armchair and OneBard! ) but who am I to dictate how other people live their lives? Discrimination is wrong. This referendum was about taking a step towards equal rights for all citizens. Live and let live. I voted yes.

Didn't vote as I felt I couldn't vote yes but also didn't want to vote no so I abstained. One thing that did get me about the Yes campaign is that a large part of their campaign was based on "Civil Liberties" , which wasn't something they extended to anyone who disagreed with them .
