Am I living in an alternative universe where City have been charged with over 100 charges by the Premier League yet the PGMOL are single-handedly trying to secure them the league.

If I was the PL I would have the NCA sent in to have a look at Webb and his mates. Brown envelopes and backhanders will be found somewhere.

I've never been one for conspiracy stuff but there is definitely something going on here. Worryingly, the media, who I always thought were there partly to expose corruption in all walks of life, seem to be completely blind to it - or are intentionally ignoring it.

When it suited the media they all went after Arteta over his touchline behaviour, writing articles about it and Sky criticising him but now when the chance is there to call out something seriously wrong with officiating, they are nowhere to be seen.

Just saw this posted on the BBC football page and it was interesting to hear Keith Hackett saying absolutely everything that has needed to be said for years- that the refs are bad, some need to be replaced and it isn't acceptable. For far too long, nobody has been allowed to criticise them and now, it's becoming clearer than ever that so many of the snide, arrogant, supercilious cûnts are just fucking shit as even with VAR, they are incapable of making the correct decisions. Just listened to that mate... BRILLIANT!!! For me Keith Hackett should be put in charge of the PGMOL Now! until the season this done... and Then a Total Revamp! Get rid of All the DeadWood Officials (that would be about 99%).

Listening to him speak made me remember how little we used to hear about refs back in the day. I rembemer him, Joe Worrall, Alan Wilkie and a few others. They refereed the game and went off back to their jobs. They made decisions, some were good, some weren't so good but they had fuck all help other than their reading and understanding of the game and their partnership with the linesmen- by fucking speaking to them, not down a fucking radio wire. They had to manage the game at a time when it was still physical and tackles were flying in. They managed to referee football matches without tv cameras, with no VAR to fall back on and had one look at everything, no fucking about with knowing that someone can look at it a hundred times and make up for your fucking stupidiy and ineptitude, or not as we're seeing now. They also managed to not be on fucking tv every five minutes or trying to play up to the cameras or put on an act to give themselves an identity.
We've gone from referees who knew the laws of the game to fucking idiots who care more about their income and image and have become fucking lazy and incompetent.

Bang on the money there, Perry. I'd go back to the old system of a referee and two linesMEN and nothing fucking else in the blink of an eye. VAR has NOT improved the accuracy of decisions and worse it has fucking ruined the game as a spectacle and sucked the joy out of spontaneous goal celebrations.

In the old days you got some bad decisions go against you but you always felt it evened itself out over a season.

Arguably up to 9 points denied by VAR.



Arsenal fans can take away from this analysis though is that VAR decisions in the 0-0 draw at home to Newcastle - when two strong penalty appeals were overlooked with Arsenal pushing for a winner - and for Toney's offside header for Brentford to level it up with 16 minutes to play on Saturday, would have put their team in a fantastic position to turn eventual draws into wins and add four points to their total had they gone in Arsenal's favour.

They also have a good case to believe a penalty decision awarded to Jesus at St Mary's, which if converted would have put Arsenal 2-0 up inside 14 minutes, would have had them on course for victory in a match they drew 1-1 with struggling Southampton. Another two points denied? Perhaps, although there was still a lot of time to play in that match.

Similarly, the more optimistic Arsenal supporters will also feel that their defeat at Old Trafford would have taken a different course had Martinelli's strike - later confirmed as incorrectly ruled out by PGMOL - been allowed to stand.
