Australia have to score a world record test score for a chasing team and the most runs ever in a 4th innings in any first-class game ever at Lords.

My money's on Australia

No referral

The umpire standing off said it carried..."Punter" sent his young charge back to the crease only to see that Doctrove say it carried...harsh call.....but who cares?

Mind you they do even themselves out these decisions

Or the umpire who has given two Aussies out despite one hitting the ground for a catch, and the other not actually hitting the ball!!!!
Second thoughts....no Umpire Doctrove arise as Sir Doctrove :barscarf:

121-4 looking good...but whilst Clarke and North occupy the crease...i shall stay muted

What's Bopara on? 3 times he's given overthrows away with irresponsible throws at the stumps.

Onions was just asking "Why?"...then he said something else :-P

He knows his onions that kid....

344 runs required

or

5 wkts

I still think 1934 will be eclipsed....but those two Aussies are fine batsmen..you can see them nicking a 150+ partnership and putting some doubt into the England bowlers

if you can get it...211 to win with 5 wkts left

those fucking Aussies are going to do it...it is not so much the quality of Clarke and Haddin today...its the idea of having to look at that smug c*nt Ricky Ponting if they do it!!!!

If we'd put the Aussies in to follow on, we'd still be in control of our own destiny.

Declaring with 2 days remaining was always going to give the Aussies a glimpse of light, because 2 full days in plenty of time to chase roughly 520.

It was a gamble, and perhaps we were right to do so.... but to declare and lose would be a disaster.

I understand why we decided to bat again, but as I said earlier in the thread...
Problem is, when do England now declare??

You want to leave enough time to bowl the Aussies out, yet post a score that they can't possibly reach...

It's a tactic I don't like, as there's too many unknown's and variables... with the lead we've got I would rather bowl 'em out again and then chase the needed score in the day (or 2) remaining.
It's anyones game now, and considering the position we were in, it would be RIDICULOUS if we now lost.

That said, it would be an amazing achievement if the Aussies did win.

Just back from my week away, where I barely slept for watching cricket until 3:30 in the morning.

I'm hoping the Aussies can do it. Time for Clarke to get a massive score. Although one wicket for the poms and its all over. Must say I thought it was going to be over very quickly after the fourth wicket.
