As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.
when i was a wee lad there seem to be testimonials every season at one club or another,, at arsenal david o leary had 2
dixon, adams, bergkamp etc,, we had had a few players that have stayed the distance,, but of the current crop,, will any of them see there testimonial played
maybe kolo or gael,senderos
I thought T and Ljungberg would have seen their's but it wasn't to be. Christ, even alliadiere got close. I don't see Senderos staying that long, he'll want and deserve a regular start, which I think he could get at most pl clubs.
Kolo is a good shout I'd say, and I'd like to think Gael will be with us long enough to see his.
WHY SHOULD PLAYERS WHO ARE MULTI-MILLIONAIRES GET A TEASTIMONIAL?
I HAVE HAD A SEASON TICKET FOR OVER 20 YEARS DO I GET A DISCOUNT FOR MY LOYAL SUPPORT? DO I FCUK!!!!
Don't most donate the money, or at least a lot of it to charity? And I think that after we get 10 years service from a player it's only right to give them a testomonial to show our appreciation.

I know statue's are usually erected when great people pass away but there really should be plans for a statue of wenger outside AG NOW as the guy is quite simply ARSENAL.
I don't agree that millionaire players should be allowed to profit one single penny from a testimonial. It should be a term of condition that all proceeds go to the charity of that players choice.
Serving ten years with one club is hardly any real great show of loyalty when the club in question are paying you twenty grand plus a week I would happily sign for life at that rate
In years gone by footballers could find themselves in a very diffficult position financially. They were constrained by a maximum wage while they played. Then they were forced to retire in their mid 30s having missed out the opportunity to "learn a trade" in their late teens unlike their contemporaries which made finding a new job difficult.
The only way round this, and to build up a bit of capital, was transfers from which the player got a cut. But that created an incentive for a player to leave. So testimonial matches were invented as a way of rewarding players who stayed put.
The aim was very explicitly to channel money to people who might otherwise be hard up.
That clearly doesn't apply to any modern Premeiership player.
Increasingly, fans have come to see them as a a way showing appreciation to long-serving players. I have no objection to that but it must, as others have said, be on condition that the player donates the proceeds to charity.
I love testimoanls, been to a few in the last 10 years & enjoy them, bit of fun & keowns was funny & bergkamps was special
seeing tony adams in a arsenal shirt for the last coming off as a sub for alidere & a mid season match with real madrid for dixon
ian wright always comes back for them which is great only guest i remember at lee's night where's adams had the ol back 4 (lukic days), keown had a england team young & old & bergkamp 2nd half was special
but i fear that these sort of matches will no longer happen
ray, paddy, freddie & thierry should of got em but pad, fred & henry never stayed long enough & ray never got one think cos of his greedy bitch wife
